Say Al Gore decides to run in 2008 and Obama decides not to run and due to that, the primary comes down to Gore vs Clinton. Who do you think would win that primary. I think it would be very close but Hillary narrowly wins with this map

I don't think it would be that close. More enthusiasm would be behind Hillary at that time, and she would have had the support of most of the WWC at the time as well just as she did against Obama. Gore's appeal would be mainly limited to the sorts of liberal, college-educated whites who voted for Obama (thanks to this being post-Inconvenient Truth after he had recast himself from moderate who picked Lieberman as his VP and had some socially conservative views to liberal progressive environmentalist). He wouldn't get the black vote like Obama did; most black voters would almost certainly go for Bill Clinton's wife over Gore. That alone would make the difference, especially considering even Obama (a far more skilled campaigner than Gore) barely won despite overwhelming black support. The only reason Gore coasted in 2000 was because he was coronated with only token opposition. This time the party establishment and obviously Bill Clinton (still the most popular figure in the party at the time, believe it or not) would be behind Hillary instead, and likely pretty pissed that Gore was challenging her. And most of the party's voters would see no value in nominating a previously failed candidate who had been a rather dull VP and poor campaigner before over Hillary, still very popular in her own right at the time.
