If/When Rick Santorum loses three weeks from today, what is next for the fighting kid from West PA?

Do you think he'd go back to his old House seat, wait for Spectre to retire, run for Governor, become an appointee, or retire altogether?

He can't go back to his old House seat because it doesn't really exist anymore.

The seat (geographically) generally still exists from what I recall, numbered differently or otherwise.  However, his residence no might not even be in his old district, but I would be surprised if he did not presently reside inside of a favorable House district.

The seat that has the most geographical (not sure about population) resemblence to his old district is the current PA-14. Which includes Pittsburgh.

Seeing as how he lives in Virginia now, I'd say that's a safe bet.

Maybe he tries to run for John Warner's seat in '08.

Hmmm.....that makes me think of a question for all the Democrats:

If you could have Daschle back in the Senate, but at the price of still having Rick Santorum in the Senate as well, would you take it? In other words, would you prefer a Senate with Daschle and Santorum or without? Just something that popped into my mind.

For me, the answer would be no I think. Daschle was a great Senator, but Rick Santorum is truly an impediment to progress in this country and a despicable human being at that. The positives of Daschle would be far outweighed by the negatives of Santorum IMO.

He'll be back in 2010.  I don't know if it'll be for the Governorship or to take Specter seat, but he'll be back.  He's a battler and won't go quietly.  We haven't seen the last of Rick Santorum.

I agree. I'd love to see him run for either but if he is really after the Presidency, he'll probably take a shot at Governor. The funny thing is that Casey will likely do the same...

In the meantime, he'll become a lobbyist (if he loses). I don't see what he could be appointed to.

I bet Santorum tries for the House somewhere.. he's the type that's always going to try for some sort of office.

I can't say with any certainty or insight what he'll do after he loses the senate race, but I highly doubt we will have seen the last of him.

I suggest you immediately spend all of your family's money on a Santorum wins contract here:
http://www.tradesports.com/aav2/trading/tradingHTML.jsp?evID=41054&eventSelect=41054&updateList=true&showExpired=false

It's trading at 14.9%, so every $10k you spend gives you $67k when Santorum wins.

Most likely he will become a bad memory and only pop up on the 700 Club or Rush Limbaugh's show.

He may get a position in Bush's cabinet. Think he's qualified for Secretary of Defense? Rumsfield isn't.
