Just a silly quiz I made up, particularly for Zoomers. Guess who said what. Answers are below.

1. "I know that human being and fish can coexist peacefully."

2. "There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Fool me once, shame on...shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again.'"

3. "I think if this country gets any kinder or gentler, it's literally going to cease to exist."

4. "Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."

5. "When you see the other side chopping off heads, waterboarding doesn't sound very severe."

6. “I was down there, and I watched our police and our firemen, down on 7-Eleven, down at the World Trade Center, right after it came down.”

7. “And when you’re talking about an atmosphere, oceans are very small. And it blows over and it sails over.”

8. "You work three jobs? ... Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that."

9. "I'm the commander, see. I don't need to explain—I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being the President. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation."

10. "See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."

I got them all right except 8. I thought that was Trump. Mainly just because of the use of the word “fantastic.” And because it could almost be read as a sarcastic, critical statement depending on how you interpret “Uniquely American, isn’t it?” Whole thing just sounds more like Trump when I read it in my head.

Only got 9 wrong, but the fact that Dubya said 9 and 10 speaks volumes.

Got the first six right and the last four wrong. #8 and #10 sound more like 45's style of speaking, at least to me.

I got 9 wrong, felt like something that Trump would say although it didn't use his speech patterns.

Bush was very divisive and quick to demonize anyone who opposed his agenda, had little regard for the truth, and wanted to rule without concern for consensus. These traits were not unique to Trump, nor did they begin with him. I think many people forget this, and assume that we all got along just fine during the Bush years, and that he was welcoming to those who didn't support him.

Got them all correct.

Doing a paper on Bushisms a few years back probably helped.

For one thing, it shows that although both Bush and Trump have authoritarian tendencies, Bush was far more effective at rallying people around his policies and the Iraq War than Trump ever could be at getting most of his policies implemented. Trump's "propaganda" was shouting on Twitter while Bush's team used terrorism to attack its critics' patriotism (and gay marriage, as a wedge issue) to win until people started turning on Bush in his second term.
