France in the 19th century explicitly constructed its identity in non-ethnic terms with it's "will to live together" concept. Of course, there was a lot of double standards involved in it. The whole effort was mostly a way to stick it to the Germans and justify our claims to Alsace-Lorraine, and that certainly didn't stop us from creating explicitly second-class citizens in places like Algeria. Still, I think the idea has merit, and it has translated in French naturalization law being somewhat more open than Germany's or Italy's. And of course, even those countries have been the homes of immigrants and ethnic minorities for centuries. The idea that ethnostates are the historical norm in Europe is largely a myth - the very concept is a modern one that has almost never been seriously implemented.
What noooo? The nation state is the only real form of government and has been forever.

The UK's waves of immigration occured before it even existed as a unified nation. This was later added to by Norman, Hugenots, Irish, Jews, Poles, Italians etc in the years following the Norman Conquest to the middle of the 20th Century. Since then, immigration from the Commonwealth of Blacks and Asians has led to an increase in racial tensions. While they only comprise around 7% of the national population, the 'punch above their weight' in the cities. In London for example they dominate swathes of the dense city centre while white people flee to the suburbs. As a result the BBC in particular shows a 'London' bias in it's programming, overepresenting ethnic minorities nationally. Surveys suggest that people beleive that up to 30% of the population is of an enthnic minority, due to misunderstanding worsed by media perception. We have been force fed that 'Multiculturalism is good for you' and it is only recently that people have taken a stand and said no more. Our own culture is under attack and we can't do anything about it in a society where maths and Mercator projection maps are deemed racist African mud huts are given the same level of artistic appreciation as the Sistine Chapel!
Lol at the idea that your culture is “under attack” because of muh imgurries.
Culture is not static, your culture is simply evolving as things change and as people perceive themselves differently.
Also Mercator is crap unless you are a sailor imo. No I’m not a fan of the Peters-Gall (personally I prefer the Robinson projection) but lol let’s not assume it’s good.
And while I do cringe at some reinterpretations of history, is it really to hard to say some subsahran African civilizations were impressive in some ways? I think not. Benin City for instance before it got burnt.

This is a time when "read the whole thread" is in order - in which case you would know that he who made that 2005 post would now be in full agreement with you in all respects Smiley
