Quote
Norm Macdonald, the deadpan comedian, actor, writer and “Saturday Night Live” star, has died after a private battle with cancer, Variety has confirmed. He was 61.

Macdonald’s cancer diagnosis was kept secret from the public, but he battled it for nine years.

The comedian got his start in showbiz as a writer on “Roseanne” in 1992 after making rounds at comedy clubs in Canada. He joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live” in 1993, and the next year he began his memorable stint as Weekend Update anchor until early 1998, when he was replaced by Colin Quinn. Macdonald was known for his impressions of Burt Reynolds, David Letterman, Larry King, Quentin Tarantino and many more during his five-year run on the show.

RIP

One of the greatest, a huge loss to comedy. I think of / re-watch his late night appearances very often.

Really a shame. He was such a terrific comedian. He and George Carlin were two of my favorites.

He was a genius - incisive in a way most comedians could only dream of, even when at his most abstract.

This joke is an all-timer.

Oh wow, his SNL days were a little before my time but his voice and demeanor were so distinguished. I loved his character in "The Middle" especially.

He fought one hell of a battle. RIP to a legend.

Hands down the best Weekend Update anchor IMHO. His impression of Bob Dole back in the 90s was hilarious. Rest in Peace Norm.

Nooo!

And who would have guessed Bob Dole would outlive him? This tweet is downright surreal:

First Michael K. Williams and now him too? It's been a rough week for celebrity deaths.

Norm Macdonald was one of the funniest men in human history. This is such a horrible loss.

This stinks.  One of the funnier humans of the last 30 years.  He wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but comedians loved him and many of them put him up with their with the best of all time.

This news ruined my birthday. Norm was one of my favorites. Managed to have a super simple comedic style while being insanely smart. He was one of a kind. RIP.

Been listening to some Norm while working in memoriam. Stumbled upon this one, which I thought is peak Norm. Sorry if it offends anyone. It's just how he was lol
