Former Giuliani Aide Found Strangled

NEW YORK -- The nude body of a one-time deputy press secretary for former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has been found strangled in his Manhattan apartment.

The death of Martin Barreto, 49, has been ruled a homicide.

Police found Barreto's body Tuesday in a bedroom at his home after a friend reported he wasn't responding to phone calls or knocks on his door.

A doorman says Barreto had been expecting a visitor. Police are searching for the visitor as a possible suspect.

A Giuliani spokeswoman says the former mayor wants to express his sympathy and prayers to the victim's family.

Barreto worked at City Hall in the mid-1990s.
