Quote
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Sunday that he will not be getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

During an interview with John Catsimatidis on his radio show on WABC 770 AM, Paul, an ophthalmologist, said he’s making the personal decision because he’s already had COVID-19.

Paul tested positive for COVID-19 in March 2020. At the time, he was the first known senator to have contracted the disease.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that those who have recovered from COVID-19 get vaccinated because experts are unsure about how long natural immunity lasts.

However, the Kentucky senator told Catsimatidis that until he sees evidence suggesting that immunity from the vaccine is better than natural immunity, he’s not going to get vaccinated.

“Until they show me evidence that people who have already had the infection are dying in large numbers or being hospitalized or getting very sick, I just made my own personal decision that I’m not getting vaccinated because I’ve already had the disease and I have natural immunity,” Paul said.

That I used to want this guy to be president is one of the most embarrassing facts about me. Really opening up here with our forum to share that.

As I've noted before, Rand Paul has not appeared in any of the PSAs which the Republican doctors in Congress have put out urging their constituents to get the coronavirus vaccine. This explains why. And partisanship seems to be a significant factor dictating who is getting vaccinated, with Democrats far more likely to do so than Republicans. All of the states which have only a third or less of their population vaccinated are under Republican control.

This guy is a doctor, seriously? Doesn't he know that vaccination is recommended for previously infected patients as well? You need at least one booster shot six months after the infection. Furthermore, being vaccinated reduces the risk for transmitting the virus to others. That's not fully the case with natural immunity.

I'll definitely take a shot later this summer after six months have passed after my infection in February.

Anti-vax is a stupid thing to add to the Republican platform. They need to appeal to some of the voters Trump turned off, and nonsense like this will further drive them away.

At this point just get the goddamn J&J people. Your commitment is about thirty minutes and maybe a day of not feeling well.

Or will it just convince more people to become anti-vax?

Many people I know think so too.

They had the infection and let themselves test for antibodies.

If they have enough, they are immune for 6 months to one year.
