The World Health Organization has ended its talks on how protect the world from future pandemics without a deal, and it’s now up to governments to decide whether to extend the process.

Negotiators for developing countries refused to sign up to a deal that failed to guarantee their countries access to life-saving drugs and vaccines.

Higher-income countries, meanwhile, would not agree to force pharmaceutical manufacturers to give up their intellectual property rights in a pandemic.

having the WHO in charge of pandemics is a horrible idea if we want to stop the next one.  Perhaps a new organization not beholden to Winnie the Pooh would be a good idea?
