republicans nominate pennsylvania governor tom ridge.  ridge, in an attempt to please southern conservatives, picks texas governor george w. bush as his running mate.

al gore coasts to the democrat nomination.  to shore up his dlc credentials, he selects arkansas senator blanche lincoln as his running mate.

discuss.

ridge/bush: 273 EVs
gore/lincoln: 265 EVs

gore/lincoln win the popular vote nationwide by 100,000 votes.  the ridge/bush ticket is able to win minnesota by 889 votes to push them over the top in the electoral college.

Here's my view of what this result would look like.

I could see either candidate winning, but my map has Gore up 272-266.

I don't think the map would look too different. Maybe something like this:

Image Link

Ridge 270 - Gore 268

Gore wins popular vote by 1-400,000 votes

Ridge was extremely popular in PA (look at the 1998 Gubernatorial race).  He would have won PA by at least three points, if not maybe by 8 or 9.

I dunno. Gore won Pennsylvania by a solid 5% in 2000.

Home state can easily be worth 10-15%
