Is there one?  It seems like it's going to be almost impossible for light hearted comedies set around cops to exist, at least for the next few years.  Goofy, over the top shows like Angie Tribeca can probably survive (and not even mention anything), but it seems like more "straight" comedy shows like Brooklyn 99 are in trouble.

I dunno, maybe they should try something different, like a cop musical.

I'd like to see a remake of Hogan's Heroes, except in slavery times--Tubman's Heroes or something like that.

That has been tried. It was an epic fail.

What's the future for light-hearted, funny comedies that frequently critique police & reference bad cops? They'll be just fine. It's not like it portrays the whole NYPD as some sort-of super progressive, respectful institution or anything. Really, only a child could watch B99 & think they're actually trying to pass that off as the truth.

Dear White People has to be, doesn't it?  There are a lot of "woke" shows on Netflix and Hulu, probably Amazon Prime too, but nobody watches those fine shows.

Well it came back with two episodes (available on Hulu).  The first spent half the time on the "issue" (and it wasn't funny), the second episode avoided it entirely.  There were some good jokes in both.

Any show that doesn't portray the police/prosecutors as a corrupt, racist institution that should be abolished, should be permanently canceled in my opinion.

I'm not sure Paul Blart qualifies as a cop.

Mall cops don't have any real power & don't kill people like police officers do, so I guess that's our answer.

Abolished and replaced with WHAT? That's the problem you guys on the left don't answer. What are you going to replace it with?

They canceled Cops, so I’m guessing it’s bleak.

I don't know. Personally, political dramas like The West Wing, Madam Secretary and Designated Survivor is more what I would aim for (more so the first two).

Political dramas are a manifestation of white supremacy.

That depends a lot more on casting that Cop shows.

A political drama with a minority lead would not be a manifestation of white supremacy, in my opinion.

The first episode was pretty bad...it deserves its imdb rating. There was no subtlety whatsoever, and I don't even recall any actual jokes.

It's over and they mostly avoided the "issue" anyway.  Not a good season.

I thought the finale was fantastic. The rest of season 8 was pretty forgettable, though still above average for a network sitcom obviously.

Not sure what the point of having Rosa quit the force but still work with the characters almost every episode anyway was.
