I have wanted to join the UAC for many weeks (mentioned it in the boards a while back...) but Hugento had made an excellent point about serving out the ticket one was elected on, or at least not going to another party.

However, we really should look beyond party and left-right labels to the actual issues involved. The UAC has a had a strong, compelling stance on most all issues. I am an economic centrist and feel the UAC represents those views better than the Democratic party.  For example I strongly support having some kind of school choice program. I am also somewhat of a centrist on foreign policy.

So now that another election is upcoming I have decided to run this time as party of the Centrist coalition (abeit the left wing of the party), which is a truly innovative and encouraging development to Atlas politics. This doesn't affect my views on any issues, which are all the exact same.

Let us try and avoid the recent partisan vitrol that is making a comeback not only in fantasy politics but also in real life. Americans should work together in this age of terror, and this can only be done by recognizing the basis of opposing arguments in order to advance the debate. This does not mean giving up your principles, but taking them to a higher level. It does mean giving up the tit-for-tat that will go on for decades if not advanced by new ideas. This is what men like Dwight Eisenhower and Tony Blair did-- they brought new ideas into their respective parties that served them well. The UAC has taken the best elements of the "right" and "left" views and put together a platform is based on firm conviction but not tied down by the emotions of past hostilities.

For all of you who have supported me, you know who you are, thank you, and I hope to see your continued support.

By school choice, do you mean vouchers? I did outline a plan whereby I would support vouchers in the debate...I would be in favor of them if they did not reduce funding at all for public schools, were not given for attending schools that discriminate on basis of race, religion, prior academic performance, etc., either in admissions or curriculum, and if they were means tested.

You also seemed to support most of my economic program, especially in the lengthy debate with Ford about it a few weeks back.

I regret your decision Beet, but I will still support you for your reelection campaign. I still urge you to read my speeches of my campaign appearances, as well as the debates, and pick the Presidential candidate you feel is best.

Beet, welcome to the party! Smiley The president has flip-flopped himself into some sort of pro-voucher position filled with 'if's and 'but's, that's true, but I am much more clearly in favour of them... Wink

I endorse Beet for his reelection camåpaign, of course, and encourage you to vote for the presidential candidate you KNOW is best. Tongue Wink

Yes, you are more strongly pro-vouchers than myself, that's true. I think my position, however, brings the benefits of them without the potential pitfalls.

I'm not a flip-flopper. You see, I actually voted for vouchers, before I voted against them...oh wait... Wink
