The parallel giant slalom gold medal today by Kathi Liensberger was also the 100th Gold medal for Austria in Alpine Skiing in World Championships.

More than 30 Gold medals ahead of Switzerland ...

The parallel slalom was a complete joke, like when the race is almost totally determined by which side you start on, what is even the point?

The piste setting has been dreadful overall, messed up the men's Super-G, the downhill was bad, and the combiné yesterday was a joke - like I'm all for a few falls, but when half the field doesn't even make it to the bottom you are starting to have issues.

Yes, the parallel giant slaloms today have a rules package that is not fully developed yet (it was also the first time that the parallel giant slalom was a WC event).

I wouldn't call it a total farce though, because we have seen during the regular WC seasons that 1 track is usually faster than the other. That's why every racer gets to drive on both the red and blue tracks to weed this factors out.

On the downhill, super-G and combined events (all won by Austrians), you seem to be pretty pissed ... maybe because we won and not you ?

I cannot see much of the problems you describe: in fact, in yesterday's combined event, it was the Austrian Marco Schwarz who had his act together and won with a solid super-G run and then with a superb slalom run from top to bottom, while the Swiss favoured guys didn't have their nerves under control and crashed out ...

The 0.50 second rule I don't understand though, you might have had a fair race without it, but when you could only get a half-second advantage from the first leg when the genuine advantage of the red course was probably about a second - it just wasn't a fair race. Even when I heard the rule I didn't understand the logic of it, so I don't think you can make this about "oh well, in retrospect"

I thought Feuz could do it in the downhill, but never expected anything from the Super-G and I thought Pinturault would win the combined slalom. And Kriechmayer has obviously had a fantastic tournament and deserves the success he gets (and I'm not holding out much hope for the technical events either, especially with Daniel Yule being so out of form). But with the Super-G, the first three guys all went out at the same gate, like when you have a course set up in that way, you're ending up not having a genuine race - the guys who go first get punished, and for the rest, they just figure how to maneouvre the one gate. That's really not the point of the speed races to say the least.

Same with the combiné, if 14 out of 35 guys go out, it means you have a course that wasn't set up for racing. If I want to watch freestly skiiing, I'll watch freestyle skiing.

We're still miles ahead of you in the World Cup standings too, that's the real measure of how strong a team is  😁

The problem is that the training for technical vs. speed disciplines got so intense over the last decade and also a much more compressed time schedule between the WC races, that there are hardly any good combined racers left, who can drive both the technical and speed ones.

That’s why you had all the speed-focused skiers crashing out in the combined slalom in the first few gates because of the steepness and icy track.

Anyway, in the parallel nations team event, Norway is the new world champion.

Silver for Sweden and Bronze for Germany.

Both Austria & Switzerland were a bit unlucky today.

Another Gold medal.

🥇

That means Switzerland cannot top the medals table anymore with just 1 race left.

Suck it, Switzerland.
