After having seen him in action in the UN (with his recess appointment by President Bush), how do you feel now about confirming him as UN ambassador?

Seeking Senate Backing, Bolton Faces Skeptics

By BRIAN KNOWLTON
Published: July 27, 2006

WASHINGTON, July 27 — Democratic senators renewed their opposition to extending the tenure of John Bolton as ambassador to the United Nations, saying today that he remained a prickly, divisive and ineffective figure.

When Mr. Bolton was first nominated for the position last year, he had “evidenced great skepticism and disdain for the United Nations and multilateral diplomacy generally,” said Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut. “Nothing he has said or done since assuming his current position in New York suggests he has altered his views.”

But Republicans at today’s hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said they were confident that Mr. Bolton, who is 57, would be confirmed by the Senate soon, and that doing so was important at a time of tumult and diplomatic challenges on the world scene.

“There are few positions in government in which the president should have more latitude in choosing his nominee,” said Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana, chairman of the committee. “We should not lose sight of the larger national security issues concerning U.N. reform and international diplomacy that are central to this nomination.”

I'd obviously vote for him.

Most of what I've read from him is about several admittedly dumb comments.  I'd have to know more about his actual performance before making a decision.

Yay. He'll fairly reliably stand up to the UN and for that I'll support him.

He is not a good person.  He is rude, obnoxious, and routinely harrasses people.  Pretty much the antithesis of the United Nations.

And for exactly the same reasons, he's a perfect representative of the US.

Wishful thinking I'm afraid, Jerusalemcar5.  Bolton merely harrasses, the US literally slaughters.  The subject peoples are simply going to hate the empire.

The UN is a corrupt organization that will probably cause another war among the many it has let slip under its nose, as it reeks the benefits of Sadams Oil.  The UN neads a total reorganization, its seams that a person with the itellectual level of a 5 year old created this organization and its idiotic rules.  How in the Security Council, can 1 country stand up to 15 other countries and veto something they all agree on, (meaning CHINA!!)?  How can it create resolution they don't even abide by and enforce?  The corrupt regimes they attempt to suppress are much like the ones that walk the halls of the UN.

John Bolton has called for swift and immediate reform in the UN that will help advance America's foreign interest, and the intrest of freedom and democracy.  The democrats that will try to shoot him down will be only doing a diservice to this country and its foreign intrest of securing freedom.

Democrat - don't like John Bolton
John Bolton = freedom around the world
By the transitive property of inequality democrats don't want freedom around the world.  Its mathmatically accurate ( just kidding don't all you liberals start freakin out on me!) but its true, lol.
