NYT headline, of course, makes it sound like he did it only because he was worried about COVID, and not because an aggressive man stalked him to his car and he felt his immediate physical safety was threatened. He also warned him repeatedly.

Not really because there was a runoff. However his runoff opponent ended up being someone who thought wearing a skirt with pictures of communist dictators embroidered on it was hilarious, thus resulting in him winning the runoff (with an amusingly high percentage of spoiled or undervotes of almost 14%, him winning about 46-40.) The left should probably stop rallying around edgelord trolls.

However say what you will about Wheeler in general, but he was totally justified here.

As far as "violence" goes this is pretty mild. As it is based on the actual incident (and not just the headline) he had perfectly valid reason to be concerned for his physical safety.
