This is surprising considering how Fayette county was even more Democratic than Louisville, KY in 2020. Maybe the future for the GOP in ‘big’ cities is running as “independents” or “non-partisans” like Linda Gorton did.

This is actually very common in nonpartisan local races

Yeah there are couple of Republican mayors in more liberal cities across the country, Evansville, Oklahoma city, Omaha, formerly El Paso, etc. If Washington D.C becomes a state, Republicans should probably follow the mould of how these mayors win as they're going to actually have to contest it if it has two senate seats (Not that they'll be very successful in the near future).

Also IIRC the Republican was more liberal than the Democrat.
