People seem to have this idea that democrats margins in the Iron Belt and other parts of the rural midwest are doomed to fate and that these places are inevitably going to vote the similar way as southern rural areas but there's nothing to support that. Strong democratic margins in most of these rural areas was phenomena fairly unique to Obama. Furthemore they are far less religious than southern rural areas being more similar to new England rurals that the democrats still have sizeable strength in.

The idea that they just doomed to lose the rural midwest is just extrapolating without an actual reason.

WWC voting patterns are unifying around the country so that's possible. They'll always vote less R than southerners because they are less evengelical but if WI wwc start to vote like MI wwc who start to vote like PA wwc who start to vote like OH wwc dems will have to keep the suburban shift moving. The only place dems are somehwat safe from a wwc trend in Minnesota because it's an one-metro dominant state.

Why would rural white voters vote for a party that explicitly promises to prioritize every racial group besides them?

Biden said he would prioritize helping women, African American, Hispanic, and Asian owned businesses.

..... Because it's been swinging and/or trending right for the last 20 years?  And like Bismark said, racial identitarianism is poison to midwestern whites.

It trended left from 2000-2012.

Uh, no. The reason some people are doubtful is that it’s only shown a rightward trend in the last 4 years.

The earliest election a lot of young people remember well is 2016.

If you combine that with a weirdly fatalistic (and awfully common) belief in electoral shifts as being the result of changes as inevitable as continental plates, you get that result.
