Option 3.

Unlike in Germany, Austria has no mandatory ID law in public.

In Germany, you need to carry an ID with you all the time, in Austria if the police desperately wants something from you regarding ID they can also come home with you where you can show it to them, but you are not fined for not carrying one. Austrian police officers will also hardly ask you about an ID, unless it's a traffic stop or tourists with a foreign license plate.

As for myself:

I have my driving license in my car all the time, but I basically never have an ID with me while walking or mountainbiking.

I generally use my drivers license as my govt issued ID. It's in my wallet with my cash and other cards. Since I invariably take my wallet when I leave home, I'll answer always.

Yes, because I keep my ID card in the same small bag as my house keys, and I almost never go out without bringing my keys, obviously.
I used to keep it in my wallet but I have done away with wallets.

Option 2. I have it in my wallet alongside my pay as you go bus card, my money and what not.

I sometimes will go out without it when I am just going to the nearby shop or stuff like that, but I will carry it 95% of the time I am out.

In Spain it is mandatory to have your ID, and to show it to police agents when requested to if you have it.

If you aren't carrying it, you will not be fined. However police legally have the right to take you to the police station to identify you if they want, but that is extremely rare.

More likely, you will just be asked your name and surname (and ID number if you know it) or the police will take you to their police car and identify you with help from the main station through the radio.

That scenario is extremely unlikely though.

Yeah, along with a plastic passport card. One never knows when impulse will strike and instead of getting off the I-87 at the Albany exit, I will just keep going north to Montreal to enjoy some decent food!

Almost always unless I'm just going out jogging or biking locally.

The information given above is false.

In Germany, it is mandatory to own a ID, not to carry it with you at all times.

(Exception: This spring it had been temporarily mandatory to carry a ID during the first Corona lockdown. This is has since been revoked.)

I keep it in my wallet, and I almost always have my wallet with me when I leave the house. The only exception would be if I was just walking my parents' dog to the park, or something like that.

Usually because it's in my wallet, but I don't always take my wallet places.

I always have my phone with me.

Yes, it's technically illegal to not have one on you here (like you can be taken to the police station if you're caught without one)

I always carry my driver's license (which also doubles as a REAL ID) wherever I go within the United States.  I also have a passport, but I reserve that for international travel obviously.
