What I mean by that is when people quote someone but for whatever reason they don’t use the quote button and instead type it out like I did below which doesn’t send an alert to the poster.

Horrible Practice, but the only person I know of that does that is Ben Kenobi, who is mostly retired by now

The recommend feature has definitely helped to cut down on empty quoting.

He came back right before the election and started doing it a TON. I’ve seen a couple other posters do it but none to the same extent as him.

This isn't really about emptyquoting, but rather deliberately removing the mention to the other user. Like this Tongue

Is this really a thing? It seems strange for someone to make that extra effort just to avoid alerting someone - something that isn't even guaranteed since not everyone has alerts enabled.

Am I the only one who doesn’t have alerts turned on?

Why would you not have them turned on? Beats manually searching to see if someone replied to you. It's also a little annoying when other people have them turned off and then they don't see your replies to them.

Nope, me neither. If they're not on by default why should I be expected to go find some option in the settings?

No. I've never known that was a feature and have no interest in turning it on.

I couldn't care less what other people have to say. I only care that they like my posts and give me the attention I need and deserve.

Is it not on automatically? It was for me.

I've never seen it unless you're quoting from a thread that is locked.

I would say FF if it's from a locked thread, HP if otherwise. Voted HP.

I set it to enabled by default for new users sometime after March. Your registration date fits into that range, albeit barely. That might be why. Prior to that, it wasn't.
