Immigration was a white-hot issue in 2015-2019. Trump started his campaign by saying that immigrants are raping people. One of the most controversial aspects of Trump’s Presidency was kids in cages. However, since the COVID lockdowns began, we haven’t heard much about immigration from Trump or from Trump’s opponents. What happened?

Covid happened, tbh. The typical “issues” have been focused on a lot less in general.

Issues change. Note also the disappearance of terrorism from the list of political problems around 2018.

And remember the transgender bathroom thing? The thing that was going to be the next big culture war? Vanished into thin air the moment the words "they're not sending their best" were spoken.

Public opinion flows from the top down.

COVID didn’t prevent “law and order” from being an issue.

The two (2) issues were linked.

Law-abiding citizens were literally ordered into their homes to shelter in place without regard for how they would support themselves or their families in the name of "saving lives", but leftist mobs rioted in over 40 cities without a peep from those who lectured others about "Safer at Home" and "Saving Lives".  The hypocrisy still stinks.

Biden shamefully mostly ignored it, and it really cost him among Latino voters, especially in South Texas.
