From the Final Presidential Debate, Donald Trump said that only people with really low IQ come show up to Court after Catch and Release.

Trump said 1% rock up to Court.

Biden said 100% rock up to Court.

Catch and Release. What is it, is it a genuine problem in the USA and is this policy going to be sustained after 2020?

Probably easier to just read the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catch_and_release_(immigration)

It's a pejorative term for policies that don't involve immediately locking up any immigrants who are believed to lack legal status when found, and instead allowing them to live in the community until their immigration court hearing. The alternative is to jail them in immigration holding facilities until their immigration court hearings. From a practical perspective, the alternative is simply not feasible: There would be far too many people jailed for it work. (The Trump administration has tried and largely failed at mass lock-ups.) In addition, to me it seems inappropriately disruptive and punitive, with little social benefit, to jail people simply for immigration violations. The extensive use of holding cells for immigration detainees is very much a Trump-era policy, and mass jailing of immigration detainees won't survive him leaving office, although of course some immigration detainees (those with serious criminal records, etc.) will continue to be held.

Did they really say 1% and 100%?  'cause both those numbers are obviously stupid and wrong.  Actually, from these two, that makes perfect sense.

Trump and Biden, stupid and wrong.

Catch and release happens in a lot of other countries as well, just because it'd be very burdensome on the state to imprison every illegal immigrant until their court date. Anyone who skips court and is caught again should be detained until trial and deportation, though.

The actual correct statistic for asylum-seekers who showed up for their hearings during the Obama Administration was north of 95%, and once they expanded the program to include social workers that would follow up with the Asylum Seekers and their families with whom they were placed oh, that number Rose to literally greater than 99%. That is markedly better than I guarantee you every traffic court in this country. If you want to lock people up whom have actually been charged with committing a crime, then we better start holding every single person charged with DUI, driving under suspension or every other traffic offense greater than a speeding ticket in jail without bond.

That's literally the extent of Trumps logic. But 45% of this country will not along and cheer when he spews complete lies like this

“That particular population, as we continue to release into the interior hundreds if not thousands of family units into the interior every week, is of grave concern as it relates to these individuals not appearing before immigration judges and now being fugitives,” the ICE official said.

In the same hearing, another federal immigration official said that only about 12 percent of border crossers and illegal aliens who complete their asylum processes actually end up qualifying for asylum — a statistic that underscores the enormous fraud and abuse in the country’s immigration system.

Why, then, does not the liberal commentariat media have an easy source for this.  This number is easily determined.

A few things need to be pointed out.  One is that people illegally here are likely to be deported; they have no motivation to show up for a court date.  Their motivation is to get here and stay here until such time as a general amnesty is granted.

For the people who are claiming "asylum", it should be noted that "asylum" does not allow for the person seeking asylum to search the world for their asylum of choice; they are to seek asylum in the nearest safe country, which for Central Americans seeking asylum is Mexico.  Asylum is not an "I want a better life!" institution; it is to provide safety for people who are legitimately persecuted and unsafe in their homeland.

You know full well that a large number of these people don't show for their court date.  Donald Trump may be exaggerating, but Joe Biden is flat-out lying; he knows that a great many of these people never show up for Court.  He was the one in government; he's supposed to know.

Alright, let's go to a liberal website:

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2018/jun/26/wolf-blitzer/majority-undocumented-immigrants-show-court-data-s/

Quote
Around 60-75 percent of non-detained migrants have attended their immigration court proceedings, according to Justice Department data from the last five available years. Some limited data suggests rates may be higher for asylum-seekers.

That said, it’s important to note that in absolute terms, a significant number of migrants have had in absentia deportation orders filed against them for failure to appear in court, which Blitzer’s statement overlooks.

Get real.

Get real.

It's saying compliance rates may be higher for asylum seekers, not noncompliance rates. However, the 99% compliance rate was limited to a specific program, not all asylum seekers. Trump's 1% figure was just a pure fabrication, while Biden's 99% figure was merely somewhat misleading.
