People have positive views of May and Cameron? Or Macri, for that matter?

Merkel. A very powerful force of stability in the world. So that gets my support very quickly and easily.

I'm definitely a progressive, but I prioritize stability, democratic rule, and "good government" over all. This aspect of my politics has increased dramatically this year, for reasons that should be obvious. This is why looking back I've realized that Warren was probably the best choice for 2020 in all things but electability.

Adenauer helped build Germany from the ashes into Europe’s most prosperous country. I also like Merkel and Eisenhower.

De Gaulle, for all his achievements, had some disturbing authoritarian tendencies.

Disturbing for you, perhaps.

Churchill was far from perfect in many ways, but simply for being the sole world leader taking on the Nazis during a critical point in WW2 (and being a highly effective and inspirational wartime leader at that), he gets major points. He gets additional points for his personality, wit, intellect, speeches, and for being far from a conventional stuffy "conservative" type like most on this list are, even those I also admire. Probably has something to do with the fact that he started out as a Liberal. He worked well and had good relationships with FDR and Clement Attlee as well.

This group is kinda weird. I personally prefer Gerald Ford on the list, but I wouldn't consider him a conservative leader. Unfortunately, he wasn't president for a long enough period and was more of a centrist. Merkel is also not a strong conservative, she's more of a centrist with a slight lean to the right.

Churchill was a great leader in defeating fascism, but I never liked his imperialism.

Overall, I'd say Adenauer. While he was too conservative for my taste and missed the right time to step down, he deserves a lot of credit for improving Germany's reputation around the world in the aftermath of World War II and his strong aliiance with the Western powers. I also admire him for leadership skills. During most of his chancellorship, he had a lot of authority and governed almost like a de-facto president. Subsequent chancellors were mostly weaker than him.

I agree but I've always found it a little weird that many of the same people who fault him for that give Teddy Roosevelt a pass on the same thing. In many ways, in fact, I see Churchill as the British Teddy.

Explaining the list:
In the early 2010s, there were comments written by light red avatars in this forum like "Cameron is not Thatcher".
In a thread about south american presidents in 2017, there were light red avatars including Macri in the top positions of the list.
I am suprised because Ford had so few votes. I read a lot of light red avatars saying that "the last election I would have voted for a republican was 1976"
