Of all the US territories, only the Northern Marianas has Republican control. It is the most republican territory. Does anybody know why? Guam, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands are all Democratic.

Based on information I can find, my best guess is that the following factors contribute to its Republican-leaning status:

-The overall population skews older.
-About two-thirds of the population is Catholic (which, as we all know, is a socially conservative cohort).
-There are third parties with significant political strength, thereby diminishing the political strength of the Democratic party there.
