Democrats need 4 defections to stop Mitch McConnell from violating his own made-up rules and RBG's dying wish by ramming-through a Trump-nominated Supreme Court justice in the weeks before the election.

Murkowski said she would defect earlier this year.

Who will be the others, if any?

I will tell you who it WON'T BE:  Susan Collins.  She will be the third ONLY IF there is no fourth.  Which doesn't count.

Wait, Romney actually said he would oppose filling the seat? That's a huge surprise.

If what I have heard is correct, Mark Kelly can be seated as soon as his win is certified. Arizona has a Democratic Secretary of State.

Chuck Grassley?
Quote
On Monday, Republican senator Lisa Murkowski said that filling a Supreme Court vacancy before 2021 would be “a double standard,” and she “would not support it.” Her GOP colleague Chuck Grassley, meanwhile, told NBC News that he also felt filling a vacancy would violate the party’s 2016 standard and that he “couldn’t move forward with it,” were he still the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Looks like I got snookered by some fake news on Twitter being spread by blue checks.  My bad.

Unfortunately, Romney probably goes along with this. He isn't anti-Trump on this kind of stuff, he also wants a 6-3 Court.

In some other universe, lame duck President Romney nominates the same person Trump does.

I couldn't imagine even lame duck alt-universe Romney nominating Amy Coney Barrett.

For Mittens, I think it's a case of,

1. He seriously hates Trump on a visceral, personal level and is willing to throw some conservative treasures overboard if he can also throw Trump out.

2. He's circumspect enough to see that if America gets any closer to a legitimacy crisis than it already has, that will eventually prompt a backlash and begin threatening conservative priorities.

Romney is kind of like like John Roberts in that regard.

I'd be really surprised if Romney votes no. Maybe Collins or Murkowski, but they will easily get 50 Senators to vote for them.
