Quote
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- As Labor Day approaches and economic conditions in the U.S. remain tenuous, Americans' 65% approval of labor unions is once again the highest it has been since 2003. Public support for labor unions has been generally rising since hitting its lowest point of 48% in 2009, during the Great Recession.

Gallup's initial reading of the public's support for labor unions was 72% in 1936, at the advent of the modern U.S. organized labor movement, and approval peaked at 75% in 1953 and 1957. The lowest ratings to date have been recorded during particularly weak economic times. This includes the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s -- when support fell below 60% for the first time -- and 2009 through 2012, when it hovered around 50%.

Here's approval by party affiliation:

Good. Labor unions haven't been valued enough in the past, party because of Reaganomics and partly because they had some issues themselves.

Ironic that this is coming at the buildup to the Nadir of organized labor.

Their issues were mostly manufactured. Corruption happens everywhere, it's why we have laws and should prosecute corrupt individuals. Instead of doing this The Feds used their powers to punish unions and not corruption. They also tolerated this corruption. Ask yourself why The United States of America did nothing about organized crime infiltrating organized labor for decades and decades and then as soon as union membership declined, they went after organized crime in the 80/90s.

Repeal of Taft-Hartley is way overdue.

Well, there was that great panic over the Teamsters in the late 50s and 60s, including congressional investigations. But overall your right.

That dip in 2008/2009 shows just how bitter some Americans can be.

Republican support for unions dropping through the floor during the early Obama/Tea Party years, then recovering to "compassionate conservatism"-era levels since around 2014, is another data point for my (and RI's) argument that the Trump-era Republican base is not particularly right-wing on traditional economic issues.
