I'm watching The Office where he played a character in that one story arc and he was as annoying on this as he is in everything else he's ever done.  HP, my least favorite "comedy" actor by far.

My opinion is very mixed. He's like Adam Sandler, when he is reigned in by a real director he can be a great and funny actor. Certainly he had some integrity back on 'Saturday Night Live' and in the very early parts of his career. Though over the past decade or so he really has gotten lazy and tiresome with his comedy.

I actually like Adam Sandler, strangely.  Jim Carrey mostly annoys me but I liked him in Bruce Almighty.

And come to think of it I take back what I said in the OP; Mike Myers is actually the most irritating actor.

I sort of agree. I don't hate Mike Meyers, but I don't think I've ever actually liked anything he ever did. 'Austin Powers' and 'Wayne's World,' his two most famous and well-liked movies, never really appealed to me.

And don't forget the monstrosity that was The Cat in the Hat, which to be fair made everyone look bad, even otherwise good actors like Alec Baldwin and Dakota Fanning.

Hehe, it's funny you mention that because I actually auditioned to do the voice of Thing 1 and 2 back when they were casting that movie.

The only thing Will Ferrell was ever in that I liked was Elf. I think that's because Ferrell just has no real acting ability, and his comedy is paint-by-numbers.

Yeah, I was a child actor. Obviously I didn't get the Thing 1/2 part but I almost glad that I didn't after seeing the movie.

What movies were you in, if you don't mind me asking?  You don't have to tell me your name or what characters you played.

I appreciate your interest.

I never ended up landing a role in a movie, sadly, but I did come close to landing parts in them. Another notable one was 'Signs.' I auditioned for Kieran Culkin's part. I was in a student film, but that doesn't really count, it was pretty bad anyway.

My short-lived career was mostly successful in terms of television commercials and voice-work. I landed a number of radio ads back in the day for products like Campbell's soup, and was in commercials for Coca-Cola and the Fort Worth Zoo. I also auditioned for Boots from 'Dora the Explorer' and Periwinkle from 'Blues' Clues.' I got callbacks for both and cam really close in landing the Boots role. I s*** you not, I was second in line for that role. I had to do the audition in front of Nickelodeon's executives and the show's staff and everything. I also came fairly close to the role of the son in that early to mid 2000's sitcom 'Hope and Faith.'

The two biggest roles that I did get, and can actually find on the internet were for a commercial parody on 'The Chris Rock Show' and another commercial parody on 'Saturday Night Live.' I'll link them below. You'll have to take my word on all of this, but if you look closely at the little white boy with the bowl cut in both videos, you'll notice that they're the same. That's me!

I don't really like to self-promote about all this, but sometimes I can't resist bringing it up. Sorry if this sort of derailed the thread.

Ferrell is great when given the right material. His Bush bits on SNL were in my opinion the pinnacle of that show's political humor (which has gone considerably downhill since). Adam Sandler, however, has never done anything funny in his entire life.

He should not be funny, but he is ridiculously funny.

I liked Anchorman and Talladega Nights a lot. He was also pretty good in the dramatic part he had in Stranger than Fiction. Agree that his recent movies have sucked, though.

He was amazing in Elf and especially Anchorman, also Stranger than Fiction was an amazing dramatic piece.

Not at all, these are hilarious.  And I actually remember seeing that same Chris Rock skit on YouTube years ago!!  That's definitely not something you'd see them put on TV now. Tongue

Thanks for sharing. Smile

He can't carry a movie by himself, but he's been in some of the best comedies of the past ~2 decades. He shines in small-to-medium doses.

meh, lean HP

I have laughed at his stuff, but not generally.  It's the same with also mentioned Sandler and Meyers (Sandler's best stuff is better than Meyers's best stuff which is better than Ferrell's best stuff).

Jim Carey is another thing altogether, but I totally understand that he's hit and miss even for people that like him.  I like him more than the others.

Most of his movies and comedy aren't really up my alley (too overbearingly loud and goofy most of the time), although I really liked his performance in Stranger Than Fiction.

Like Robin Williams (RIP), I prefer Will Ferrell more as a straight man than as the over-the-top characters and performances they're both better known for.
