American coffee *shudder*
Because of the way it tastes or because it's American? I'm betting the latter.
American coffee is a bit stronger then coffee in other parts of the world from what I understand. Americans have never really been as big on "gourmet" coffees and teas like Europe and other parts of the world. We are hard whiskey and strong beer drinking fellows in this neck of the world.
Not at all - well not any more, anyhow. It's only the lightest milkiest coffee-lessest of European variants that have caught on in suburban America, but of course the coffee brewed out west in the 19th century was every bit as strong as that brewed in Arabia is to this day. The reason's the same of course - it was /is drunk for its coffeine, not for its taste or for some fashion statement.
But of course, we Europeans are not free of that either.
Sadly that's getting to be the case. I drink my coffee straight up black and strong. On occassion I'll add a little bit of cream to it.
I like my coffee like I like my women--hot, black, and strong.
But in all seriousness, I've never had Starbucks. There really isn't one anywhere near here, and I don't have any desire to spend much money on coffee, although I do like it.
