https://news.gallup.com/poll/3382/bradley-stronger-candidate-than-gore-against-bush-mccain-general-election.aspx

“Among those in the 18-29-age range, Bush beats Gore by a 26-point margin, while Bradley beats Bush by two points among the same group of voters“

“The groups showing the largest differences in Bradley's and Gore's electoral strength against McCain are the 18-29 year old voters, Republicans, and eastern voters. Young voters split evenly between Gore and McCain at 47%, but they give Bradley a 24-point lead, 58% to 34%”

Maybe because Bush was cool and relatable while McCain was older and represented a state full of retirees and he seemed very Dole-adjacent in terms of generational perception?
I don't know.
However those kinds of swings are absurd. 12-13% of youth would have voted for Bradley but not for Gore. 13% of youth would have voted for Bush but not for McCain. That is absolutely crazy IMO.

That's really weird.  McCain was doing town halls at colleges on tv and getting lots of positive media attention, I don't know why Gallup had him doing worse than W.

Bush II looked like a teddy bear, McCain looked like an old man...and not the crazy uncle kind either.
