I'm against the proposed change. By and large, I think the current system is fine, while the proposal before the Senate would result in what is effectively a fused executive-legislature, with too much power and expectation resting on the PM. In my opinion, the current tri-partite seperation of powers is fine. It seems to me that people expect too much from the Presidency, which is unfair as I think the executive is the body most 'cramped' by a government simulation such as this one.

Secondly, on a more minor point, on reading the bill and debate, it seems that regional senators may be lost. I am in favour of retaining regional representation through these positions as a solid link between the regions and the federal government. I think it is also beneficial if constituencies remain reasonably stable, something which is unlikely if the current redistricting process was actual used for all senatorial constituencies.

I'll still be voting against it, I just want to make sure that if it does pass that the regions still have representation in the Senate. One of the jobs the citizens of the Mideast entrusted to me when voting me into office.
