One time a guy asked me if I watched Bojack Horseman and I said "No, I don't like anime."

Family Guy has become so low-effort and bad that it's become good again. It doesn't take itself seriously at all and that's the charm of it now. The beginning of the show was good, the middle just mediocre, but later seasons have become more absurd and watchable.

The Office is the one sitcom that I think nails everything perfectly: the dialogue, the plot, the character development, the jokes, and their tie-in to the plot. I watch Family Guy and South Park because they're funny to me; shows like Rick and Morty and Bojack Horseman are unfunny and obnoxious.
I don't think Bojack belongs in the discussion as I don't think it's a comedy.  It's a drama cartoon with some jokes.  It's way too dark to be a comedy, it's even too dark to be a black comedy.  The first few seasons maybe was a comedy, as it was lighter in overall tone with the occasional punch to the gut.  The last 2 seasons were just dark.  Sure, Bojack is "better", but dealing with the situations he's made for himself.....blech, hard to watch.

My wife feels the same way you do, she can watch FG and SP but can't stand R&M and BH.  Rick's burping turned her off from the start and she never really gave it a chance.

I don’t understand all this emphasis on “muh plot”.
I watch TV (well YouTube because I am a Gen Zer) to unwind a bit and get some quick relaxation/entertainment. I’m not looking for a complex arch, I just want to enjoy twenty minutes or so. I think a large segment of Americans would agree with me (for once)
Sure the jokes are low brow and trashy, but so what?
It’s not a f**king fine wine, it’s an animated cartoon that you thirty year old somethings are taking too seriously.
a funny thing with a plot is better than a funny thing without a plot, that's all I'm saying.  I watch and enjoy FG for the same braindead entertainment reasons you do.  People can (and do) enjoy both.

If you find yourself now fond of Brian than anyone on Family Guy...you are not really the demographic the show is meant for.

I am perfectly aware of that. In fact that the most intelligent member of the family is the freaking dog tells you something about how cringe the show is.
if you think the dog is the smartest person in the family you haven't watched much.  Brian is a fake intellectual.  If I had to rank the intelligence of the family I'd go:
Stewey (and not close)
Meg
Lois
Brian
Chris
Peter

Meg and Lois could be swapped and sometimes Chris says a smart thing.

I totally understand the hate FG gets, but really, if you accept it for what it is (a string of jokes held together by bad plot...which to be fair, is true of most every sitcom ever) it's not bad.  The jokes are good more often than not.  It's silly to put it against shows that actually have a plot like South Park or Rick and Morty (even if they are often pretentious) as those shows are clearly "better" by any reasonable measure.

also, The Venture Brothers is the best "adult" cartoon

The Office is the one sitcom that I think nails everything perfectly: the dialogue, the plot, the character development, the jokes, and their tie-in to the plot. I watch Family Guy and South Park because they're funny to me; shows like Rick and Morty and Bojack Horseman are unfunny and obnoxious.

That show died when Steve Carrell left.

Also, Daria wins with the adult stuff...mostly since Dan Vs. was placed on a kid network.
