Let's say that there were only 3 contenders for the Democratic Nomination in 1960. Kennedy, Johnson & Humphrey. And let's say that all 50 State (Plus D.C.) held primaries. How would that have turned out?

With maps discuss.

Humphrey-Red
Kennedy-Green
Johnson-Blue

How about we look at the 1960 election if it were held in today's primary climate. Also let's include Symington and Stevenson.
Iowa: HHH wins with little contest from LBJ and JFK, much like Harkin in 1992.
New Hampshire: JFK defeats LBJ by a very narrow margin. JFK's financial advantage and regional bonus leads to the victory.
Nevada: JFK wins again due to strong support from Hispanic voters
South Carolina: LBJ picks up his first win of the primaries with strong southern support as well as blacks.
Michigan: HHH wins in a race which JFK does not contest due to questions over delegates
Florida: LBJ beats HHH, JFK not contesting
Alabama: LBJ
Alaska: LBJ
American Samoa: JFK
Arizona: JFK
Arkansas: LBJ
California: very close and intense race, but JFK narrowly prevails
Colorado: LBJ
Connecticut: JFK
Delaware: JFK
Georgia: LBJ
Idaho: LBJ
Illinois: JFK
Kansas: LBJ
Massachusetts: JFK
Minnesota: HHH
Missouri: LBJ
New Jersey: JFK
New Mexico: JFK
New York: JFK
North Dakota: HHH
Oklahoma: LBJ
Tennessee: LBJ
Utah: LBJ
Louisiana: LBJ
Nebraska: JFK
U.S. Virgin Islands: JFK
Washington: JFK
Maine: JFK
Democrats Abroad: JFK
D.C.: JFK
Maryland: JFK
Virginia: JFK (northern virginia)
Hawaii: JFK
Wisconsin: JFK
Ohio: JFK
Rhode Island: JFK
Texas: LBJ
Vermont: JFK
Wyoming: LBJ
Mississippi: LBJ
Pennsylvania: JFK
Guam: JFK
Indiana: JFK
North Carolina: LBJ
West Virginia: JFK
Kentucky: JFK
Oregon: JFK
Puerto Rico: JFK
Montana: LBJ
South Dakota: LBJ

JFK Wins

Campaign Themes
JFK: Youth, Change, Hope. Center-Left. Wins nomination
LBJ: Elect-ability, Senate Record. Center-Left. Looses nomination, VP nominee.
HHH: Labor, Civil Rights, (Issues-Based Campaign). Left. Drops out after Super Tuesday
Symington: Military leadership, if Iraq were to occur then he would emphasis that. Center-Left. Drops out after last place in Iowa
Stevenson: Candidate experience, party unity. Center. Drops out after New Hampshire

Perhaps but Ted Kennedy would never win PA in a national election.
