I mean, it is good, yeah.

Until a President Haley/Scott/Rubio raises it to 11, the next liberal to 13, next conservative 15...

You're writing this as is if it's not the coldest, tiredest take that hasn't been repeated over and over on this board and the whole Internet for months.

Everyone knows that can and likely would happen absent some grand compromise on judicial reform. Not a single person here ever types a word about adding seats without being aware of this outcome.

Democrats won't have the seats to pack barring PR and DC statehood.

I used to think that, but now I disagree.

You think Manchin or Sinema would sign on to it? Or do you think they won't need those votes?

We will not forget this is not alluding to court packing.

Democrats will never have the votes to do that or abolish the filibuster ! Court Packing is like 10 steps beyond abolishing the filibuster. It won't happen ! Get over it !

Manchin was asked today and gave a vague answer that pretty much sounded like a yes I'll pack it.

The bottom line is that with hyper polarization Democrats will now be forced to pack it when they're back in power.  The base won't stand for anything else.  GOP could have just kept their 5-4 majority but now they're going to get something a lot worse I predict.  Karma is a B****.

I think both would sign on to it.  Manchin is not running for re-election again, and he's as angry at Republicans' behavior as anyone.  He won't be happy it's come to this, but Schumer can get him on board.  He's a small-c conservative, but he's still a Democrat who believes in good governance.  And Sinema will soon be in a very tough re-election fight, and I doubt she wants the threat of judicial intervention in the vote looming over her head.

Democrats won't have the seats to pack barring PR and DC statehood.

If Democrats retake the Senate, DC statehood is a 100% chance. No Democratic senator is going to stand in its way. You can safely add 2 Ds to any Senate count with Ds in control, and probably two strong progressives.

PR statehood is also a 100% chance if Puerto Rico votes for it, but it will be a battle to see where those senators come in ideologically, and even in party. It's still the right thing to do even if they cancel out the DC senators.

I think you can make a case for Guam as well. But for sure DC & PR (if they vote for it).

The Democrats have been given the greenlight to:
-End the Filibuster
-End the Electoral College
-Give statehood to D.C. & Puerto Rico
-Pack the Supreme Court (I would go to 15 justices, though I think 13 is logical since we have 13 circuits)

I highly doubt it will be unpopular with voters either. Especially once they start striking down Roe v. Wade. All bets will be off. Mitch is an idiot and he'll most likely keel over before he sees all this happen.

Court packing is going to be an uphill battle. I think the first matter of business in the event of a D-trifecta is DC and Puerto Rico statehood immediately (after COVID stimulus, of course). Whatever court reform can come afterwards. But it's kind of surprising for me to see that this idea has caught the mainstream and that even Manchin and Sinema seem like possible yes votes. What a wild year.

Well, looks like we're gonna get the Winning Party Continuously Hijacks The SCOTUS Until An Authoritarian Party Hijacks It For Good timeline; for better or worse.

TL;DR - Joe still wins by 150-200 EV. SCOTUS won't steal election results, and Dem. majority won't allow for Roe to be overturned any time soon. Don't worry about it.

Why "hijacks"?  Is the EPA or the NLRB "hijacked" when the out-party wins?  Why do you refer to democratic governance as "hijacking"?

Because if this back and forth continues, assuming it will, you'll eventually see very dramatic increases in the amount of seats set to the court. Potentially even an increase in the ideological/political radicalization of said Justices.

The institution is, with ACB's confirmation, is essentially going to die.

One, I don't see the problem will increasing the number of seats on the court.  Why is nine a magic number?  Two, making the Court more democratically accountable would do the opposite of increasing radicalization.  That's why democracy is good!

I mean, it is good, yeah.

Until a President Haley/Scott/Rubio raises it to 11, the next liberal to 13, next conservative 15...

Rubio...while having an affair with a staffer

Wait when did this happen/source lmao

It's in a book by a former chair of the Florida Republican Party. There's a lot of dirt about Rubio out there that would come out if he was ever a presidential nominee.

Wasn’t there an Atlas poster that claimed Rubio frequented a place known for gay hookups?
