Obama 2012 was pretty impressive. Coming off a blowout GOP wave in 2010, he was able to turn the tables on a moderate Republican opponent, run a sorta-populist bid, and actually gain ground in some parts of the country.

Obama 2008, a lot of people forget that the narrative in early 2008 was that McCain's maverick personality would allow him to flip traditionally blue states, Obama was able to reverse that narrative, though Palin and the recession also largely discredited McCain. I do wonder how a McCain/Lieberman ticket does with no recession.

Obama 2012. It's the only time I've seen Democrats actually get it, stop being afraid of their own shadow, be disciplined, and pummel their opponent mercilessly. If Hillary had been half as competent against T***p, she'd be President right now.

Bush obsessed over the popular vote and nearly lost Ohio and the election in the process X
Obama '08 was an icon, he had the zeitgeist, then a yuge recession, he should've won by double digits X
Trump was an icon too, he also had the zeitgeist on his side...somehow he lost the popular vote by 3 million to someone like Hillary Clinton. X

I guess that leaves Obama '12 by default.

That was never the narrative. In fact, the only time John McCain even had a lead was the week or two after picking Palin.

Obama 2012 is the best answer. Obama anything, honestly, the man is uber talented. The whole campaign strategy was very impressive in 2012, though.

And honestly, Bush 04 was pretty good to, as evil as its motives really were, it worked.

This is just one such article, which mentions that McCain could win blue states: https://www.politico.com/story/2008/03/maverick-wants-to-paint-blue-states-red-009019

That's a Republican fluff piece that wasn't within reality at the time and still manages to look dumber now.
