I’ve seen predictions that Biden being President will magically give everyone healthcare, get liberal judges on the SCOTUS, and legalize marijuana. Why do people think Biden will have so much power as President?

Nowhere have I seen anybody predict these things that you say they're predicting, & that's because nobody with half a brain would.

I have literally never seen anybody predict that. What I do think, and a lot of other people do too, is that Biden will not only not make things worse as a Trump second term would but will improve things so even though in 2025 there will still be problems the US and the world have been changed for the better.

He won't -- and he doesn't pretend to be able to solve all our problems. We are going to have to solve many of those problems without aid from the government. Some of the solutions will be purely entrepreneurial, and the best thing that the government could do to allow those solutions to emerge is to get out of the way. Some of those are personal choices in morality.

It's not up to our political leaders to get us to give up boozing and whoring and instead learning the arts of civility, developing vocational skills, and starting small businesses. It's not up to them to get us to put money into savings and investments instead of buying the most overpriced gadgets and status symbols. We do that ourselves.

What will be different is that Joe Biden will not be the sick joke that Donald Trump is. That is not an issue of liberalism and conservatism; Trump has treated his predecessor as someone to reject down to his fingernails. Paradoxically I find Obama a liberal version of Dwight Eisenhower, with much the same virtues. Kennedy could reject Eisenhower's style (a reasonable expectation!) without repudiating Eisenhower's achievements and virtues.

Because Donald Trump has few virtues (if any) he will be easy to reject and reverse. That itself will solve many of our problems.

He isnt gonna solve all the problem, pragmatic solutions benefit mainstreet instead of Wallstreet. Trump can win if he did exactly what Bush W did; 2001 after Enron sign campaign finance reform, 2006 signed minimum wage increase, and 2004 make a commitment to lift cap on wealthy to increase solvency of Social security.

Clinton got reelect because he signed welfare reform, copying the other part's stance is bipartisanship not standing your ground and pass partisan Bill's. Thats why McCain, Judd Gregg, John Warner and George Vonovich and Arlen Specter were mavericks

No one is saying that.  It’s just that many of us feel eliminating Trump from the Oval Office would be a huge relief, and Biden would be an acceptable POTUS, even if Biden is flawed and fixing our problems would be difficult for anyone.

Campaign finance reform? Increase in the minimum wage? lifting the cap on the wealthy as contributions to Social Security? A Republican who offered such would get such passed. It is not only gangland that operates upon the idea "make him an offer he can't refuse".

Republicans are for cheap labor, evisceration of unions, tax cuts favoring the super-rich, and their own entrenched power... regrettably the GOP has become a cadre party.

I think a lot of people (Joe included) think that Donald Trump is the root of the problem, not the manifestation of the problem. Even if you get rid of Trump, his base remains. And even if they don't vote for someone like Nikki Haley or Ted Cruz, they will remain active locally. They'll keep running subtly racist (sometimes even overtly racist) candidates and within 15-20 years, we'll have Trump 2.0--and the new guy won't be as incompetent or bumbling as Trump is. You know what that means.

So Biden isn't the end all be all, I think he's the bridge from "worst case scenario" to "could be better" and progressive ought to be ready to build that bridge to "good" instead of "normal"--because normal wasn't good. One of Bernie's biggest problems is that he inspires a lot of energy from young people, but those young people don't vote or run for office as often as they should. That's why I'm more focused on coalition building than just getting a message out there.

It's true.  Biden is actually a source of elfin magic that will be unleashed upon his ascension to the Presidency and bring about a national utopia--all foretold by the ancient text, the "Chronicles of Malarkey".  America's failure to embrace him for his destiny has cause untold suffering over the last 30 years.

Biden went through the economic difficulties during the Obama administration and he would be the one to take us through this impending doomsday economic situation we are facing now with the country being literally shut down.

Trump is only good for coasting on someone else's hard work and would NOT be any good at getting the country back and running again.

Just for that reason Biden should be our next President.

Anyone who thinks any one politician will “solve all of America’s problems” is pretty naive.

Nobody is voting for Biden to solve all of our problems. People are voting for him to solve the biggest, most immediate problem: Trump.

What!
Nobody is saying that (and if you hear this, you are foolish to believe it, or to portray it as serious).
Because nobody on the entire planet can "solve all of" the problems.

Nobody thinks Biden will solve all of America's problems. I think he would solve very, very few, if any. Maybe he could manage not being as horrid on immigration and environmental issues as Trump, but I don't expect much more.

He wouldn't magically solve all of the country's problems; no one could. But I think that Biden:

a)maximizes the chances of removing a bottom three president of U.S. history,
b)maximizes the chances of taking the Senate, and thereby passing laws and appointing liberal judges, and
c)sounds like what I want a president to sound like, e.g.:

Very few people think that.

I will be blunt that I think Biden will be a mediocre president.  But mediocre would be far superior to Nero Trump, fiddling while America chokes to death.

I think Biden will calm the shattered nerves of the nation. Mediocre is good if he helps unite us and gets our economy back on track again like he did when the Obama administration inherited a tanked economy.
