I rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time in a long time as a part of an Indiana Jones marathon I'm doing.

Lots of questions, and I thought why not bring Atlas into the discussion.

How accurate is the movie to Scripture (obviously its not supposed to be but its fun to consider)?

What came out of the Ark? (Yes we know its the power of God, but more specifically)

Would the Ark's power pass over Jews regardless of whether they were looking (Chosen people, blood on the doors etc)

Just spitballing here, but let's get a discussion going.

Jesus Christ.

https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justin-taylor/what-does-the-tabernacle-symbolize/

And as the storyline of redemptive history progresses, we see that Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of these shadows:

Jesus is the true tabernacle.

John 1:14 tells us that “the Word became flesh and dwelt [Gk. σκηνόω] among us,” and the Greek translation of “tent of meeting” is σκηνὴ μαρτυρίου (Ex. 33:7). In other words, when Jesus became the God-man he “tabernacled” among us. (And of course Jesus spoke about “the temple of his body” [John 2:19, 21], and Paul taught that because we are united to the risen Messiah “we are the temple of the living God” [2 Cor. 6:16].)

Jesus’ body is the curtain ripped in two that brings us to the holy presence of God.

the Bible didn't give the Ark supernatural powers, Lucas/Spielberg made that sh**t up

plot magic came out of the Ark

the Ark's power would pass over Jews if that's how they wrote it

I've probably seen Raiders 40 or 50 times in my life.  Have a seat kids...back in the day we thought VCRs were the greatest thing ever.  Sure the picture was ass, but our TVs were ass, so it didn't matter.  Anyway, unless you dropped thousands of dollars or had access to cable TV, your movie selection was limited to what ever you happened to have acquired.  The first 4 movies in my house were Raiders, Temple of Doom, Top Gun and Tin Men.  I was straight and already into the Air Force, so Top Gun wasn't really all that interesting to me.  Tin Men isn't interesting to anybody.  So I watched a LOT of Indy.

My question for debate is, are they ever going to make a fourth movie in the franchise?

My thinking is that the Angel of Death came out of the Ark. Naturally, Nazis think the Angel of Death is beautiful.

4th film
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0367882/

5th film

From October 03 2019
https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a855613/indiana-jones-5-cast-release-date-plot-news-trailer-title-harrison-ford/
Quote
Initially, Indiana Jones 5 was supposed to be in cinemas in July 2019. As you'll notice, this date has passed and... well, no Indy 5.

The date was shifted back to July 10, 2020, but even that didn't stick. Disney pushed the release back again, by another year once again. The official release date is currently July 9, 2021.
Quote
Ford said "things are coming along well," and he was "looking forward to it". He also confirmed the movie would begin shooting sometime in 2020.

I was making a joke.  Many people refuse to accept that the last film exists.

That's a good take

Although when she revealed her true form, Belloq did scream in terror, along with Deitrich and Toht.

One of the best films ever made.

It's a really clever interpretation on items and stories contained within the religious realm. The Bible can also be considered an interpretation and is basically a set of stories, like a lifestyle guide in the early ages.

But this interpretation belongs to Steven Spielberg.

And he has a near god-like status.

This is (almost) my favorite movie of all time.  I've seen it many times and it continues to be enjoyable.  These days--nearly 40 years later--it's great to see it in a movie theater where most of the audience has also seen it and knows what's going to happen in the next scene.

Maybe it’s supposed to be like Passover, with those who don’t look getting “passed over”.

I still think that Indy should have let the Nazis take the ark to Berlin and let Hitler open it. His head would have exploded/melted and things wouldn't have been as bad.

I say that in jest, I love this movie.

As do I.

But if we entertain that hypothetical, I think of my fellow Jews in Germany.

You know I heard in the original release, there's a post credit scene where the US army symbol is burned off the box by the Ark just as the Swastika was burnt off before. Thoughts on that?

When it comes to cultural touchstones (among others) like Indiana Jones and the original Star Wars trilogy, I feel like I have more in common with Generation Xers than I do with my fellow Millennials.

Well, there's my overdue warning not to take Quora as gospel.
