I went to a party a few weeks ago and brought cookies, thinking they were chocolate chip, only for them to be oatmeal raisin. My face expressed even more disappointment because I inflicted that on others too.

Washington Post: Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle declines White House visit saying he 'just can't do it.'

... "People say you should go because it's about respecting the office of the president," Doolittle told the Post. "And I think over the course of his time in office (Trump's) done a lot of things that maybe don't respect the office."

Doolittle told the Post that he feels "very strongly" about Trump's "issues on race relations," mentioning the Central Park Five, the Fair Housing Act and Trump's comments in the wake of a 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Doolittle, who spoke out at the time condemning the Charlottesville rally, told the Post that Trump's rhetoric has enabled and empowered racism and white supremacy.
"I don't want to hang out with somebody who talks like that," he said.

So are you OK with examples 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 on this list?

Quote
3. Matt Birk, Baltimore Ravens

The Super Bowl XLVII champ turned down the opportunity to meet President Obama in 2013, citing religious differences. But he did reveal what he would have said had he gone.

"I would say that I have great respect for the office of the presidency, but about five or six weeks ago, our president made a comment in a speech and he said, 'God bless Planned Parenthood.' Planned Parenthood performs about 330,000 abortions a year. I am Catholic, I am active in the pro-life movement and I just felt like I couldn't deal with that. I couldn't endorse that in any way."

Quote
4-6. A Trio of Miami Dolphins

In 2013, Obama invited the 1972 Miami Dolphins to the White House to celebrate the only team that completed an undefeated season and post-season in NFL history. But three members decided not to go for political reasons.

"We've got some real moral compass issues in Washington," center Jim Langer said. "I don't want to be in a room with those people and pretend I'm having a good time. I can't do that. If that [angers] people, so be it."

"I just don't believe in this administration at all," Dolphins guard Bob Kuechenberg said. "So I don't belong. Anyone on the left or the right has to respect one man's opinion."

Former teammate Manny Fernandez added, "I'll just say my views are diametrically opposed to the President's. Enough said. Let's leave it at that. I hope everyone enjoys the trip who goes."

Quote
8. Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins
1025px Tim thomas

The 2011 Stanley Cup winning goaltender was also an outspoken member of the Tea Party movement. So when he and his teammates were invited to meet Obama at the White House in 2012, he used to opportunity to protest all levels of U.S. government by boycotting the visit.

"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People," Thomas wrote in a statement. " This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government. Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL."

Were THESE guys FFs for standing on principle and publicly blowing off the President?  That's a question.  Because this is either right for all or wrong for all.

Trump is a racist prick and we react to people rejecting his invitations accordingly.

So what about the others that blew off Obama, based on their principles?  Was that OK?  Or were they "disrespectful to the President"?

The only thing worse for Trump than the booing is that his sewer feed of Twitter is flooded with fatbergs of news stories around booing today.

No, it's not right or wrong. It's their choice to go or not.

It was ok. Nobody should feel pressured to visit somebody they don't want to visit.
