Basically, let's say Trump is eventually impeached and he is also convicted by the Senate in a relatively close vote (say, 70-30 or 75-25).

However, he is still allowed to run for reelection and does not go to jail or anything, just removed from office. What happens then?

Also 2 scenarios for this:

Scenario 1: Trump wins the Republican primary against Pence in an upset, rallying his base against the establishment again (like 2016).

Scenario 2: Trump runs as an independent against Pence and whoever the Dems nominate.

I think this scenario is incredibly unlikely.  If Trump is removed, the Senate can also bar him from holding future office by a simple majority vote.  If 2/3 of the Senate voted for removal, it's difficult to see them not also voting to bar him.

Impeached and removed -- but not barred from holding any office of profit and trust in the United States?

Trump still has the GOP base behind him, as it is much more loyal to him than Nixon's base was. It is still the majority of the GOP, and it is likely to cast blame on others than fault Trump.

People still run against Trump in the GOP primaries, but Trump prevails in getting the nomination. But to others he is discredited, and he loses like Hoover in 1932 and Carter in 1980. People not part of Trump's base will hold a corrupt and chaotic administration in contempt.

I think it might inflame passions of his opponents against him even more.

However, I never thought of this possibility. The base will still worship him after all...we'll never be rid of this charlatan, will we?
