Next year Trump resigns to avoid removal from office, as a result, Mike Pence becomes the 46th President. Meanwhile, the Democrats nominate Warren.

Who wins?

It depends on the circumstances. Did President Pence pardon Trump? Is the economy still doing well?

Pence would give Trump a pardon in this scenario, I am sure every major presidential candidate since Nixon has forced an agreement with their running mate that they would need to be pardoned in the case of a possible major verdict.

And pardoning him would prove quite unpopular just like with Ford.

With a rolling economy, this one's easy--President Pence.

Warren might actually have a better shot. Pence won't have the same rallying power to get the alt-right segment going. He won't have the same sort of media savvy or charisma either.

And if he pardons Trump, that's even worse.

It'd be almost 2012-esque again.

It would be 2012 meets 1976 meets 1868.

I don't know why anyone thinks Pence could win by himself -- his views are WAY out of touch with the public and he doesn't have the deranged "charisma" Trump does -- let alone as the placeholder president for a corrupt criminal he pardoned, implicated in a scandal he probably won't be able to entirely escape himself.

The dude would be DOA. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even run or win the nomination.

I agree. I think nearly every Democratic candidate would have a better chance at beating Pence than they would against Trump, even with impeachment baggage. Pence is too far-right socially and too tied to Trump to bring back some of the voters Trump alienated even if he tries to keep the former President at arms length (and that would just cause problems with the base anyway). And when it comes to the base, he isn't as charismatic or filled with enough personality to maintain Trump's cult, or ability to will a false reality into existence.

Just look at how Pence recently handled the media when pressed about his presence within Ukraine-Contra, he doesn't have the aggressive persona that Trump has to make his enemies into boogeymen like Trump does either. He may still have this economy to run with, but that's all he has, and it won't be enough and may still go south by the time election day happens. Opinions on it are certainly going south, at least somewhat.

Pence will need to accept that he was chosen as Vice President due to Trump being convinced that Pence, being the equivalent of a bowl of sugar-free vanilla pudding, was the least harmful choice for the ticket.
