COMMERCE TWP., Mich. (FOX 2) - A town hall on gun control featuring Congresswoman Haley Stevens ended early as tempers flared and the arguing turned to shouting Tuesday.

It was held at the Multi Lakes Conservation Association and organizers were not transparent as to what the town hall would be about when it was booked at the club. Many of the members did not find out until recently that it would be about guns and gun control.

I wouldn't say I'm triggered or even surprised at the fact that they booked a shooting range under a false name, or anything else like that. On the other hand, I am surprised by the fact that they went on a planned screaming tangent in a shooting range.

I saw this news clip earlier today, and noticed the large number of Trump supporters who were present there. This town hall was held at a pro-NRA gun range, in a staunchly Republican neighborhood within Stevens' district. Not sure if it was the wisest move for her to hold this event here. But in any case, though this district will definitely be competitive next year, and would probably be carried by Trump if he wins Michigan next year, I think that the long-term trends work against Republicans here. The Detroit suburbs are becoming more and more Democratic.

In the words of the man on that woman's tank top - "there are good people on both sides" which, unlike the source's case, here probably applies. It's a tough issue and people get upset and angry. If you continue to read/watch the article & video you will hear that they came to divide up into smaller, more productive, constituent groups so it wasn't all lost.

This clip does not do any service to anyone who was present there. And again, I don't think Stevens made the right call by holding the town hall here. Though of course, even if she had held it at a more friendly location, it's likely that Republican protesters would have showed up and "acted out" in any case. But tensions, I think, would have been calmed.

There is a difference between Stevens and these people : She is a congresswoman and should act like an adult.
