To continue with the What-If speculations? Are there any seats that would switch parties that the Lib Dems don't hold if they suddenly went *poof*?

Missed this... I apologise...
I'll post something along those lines pretty soon

Afew to start with :
Shrewsbury & Atcham (Lab Gain)
The Wrekin (Lab Gain)
Lancaste & Wyre (Lab Gain, though this seat disappears next time. Replaced as Lancaster & Fleetwood, A very Labour Port and A left of centre Uni city with a few Tory rural wards in Between)

Though if the Lib Dems disapeared. Surely the Liberal Party would reemerge as a minor force ?

What seats would they win ? Montgomery, Orkney & Shetland ?

Yeah, and now people are brave enough to put their names to the speculation as well. Those who have in some way encouraged or suggested a confidence vote or full leadership ballot:

Alistair Carmichael (Orkney & Shetland)
Norman Baker (Lewes)
Susan Kramer (Richmond Park)

Interesting to note is that Baker and Carmichael are from the left of the party, and Kramer from the right, so it would appear that neither wing are particularly happy with him.

It's probably significant that Baker is actually in the Shadow Shadow Cabinet...

Five fantasy pounds says that Carmichael runs for the leadership. I have my reasons.

Kennedy will make a "personal statement" in about an hour. Any predictions on what he'll say? Resign? "Put up or Shut Up"? Something else?

===

As it's not real money, I'll take that bet (I suspect I'll lose though).

Ironic; rumour is that it'll be about allegations of a drinking problem

BBC has been told (they've not said by who) that this won't be a resignation speech.
BBC has also been told that slightly under half of the LibDem front bench have signed a letter saying they no longer have confidence in his leadership; he's not been given it yet but knows it exists. Apparently neither Campbell, Hughes or Oaten have signed it (seems like no one wants to play at being Tarzan).

1. He's admitted to being an alcoholic and to having to have to had professional help. Says he's been dry for two months though.

2. He's not going to resign

3. He's called a leadership election. He'll be a candidate.

Quite a development, though the seriousness of his alcohol problem has being doing the rounds for quite some time now. Having said that it was exceptional to admit it and I applaud him for it and I'm glad he has been sober for two months and counting.

Any way I can vote for him? Or is that only for already current members?
