Good evening ladies and gentlemen.

Abortion is an issue that has lately been brought back into the political arena with the recent proposals for a Right to Life amendment. My position on abortion has perhaps been misinterpreted so I am here to clarify. I am Pro-Choice, I personally wish for abortion to be safe, legal and exceedingly rare.

Being pro-choice does not necessarily mean that I am pro-abortion. You can actively oppose abortion and still accept its legality if you understand the alternative. In fact I myself oppose abortion in many instances. What it means to me, is that I understand that maing it illegal, making it a punishable crime will NOT stop the practice. Instead it will be dragged away from the clinics and into the back alleys or into the hands of the mother herself. I do not want to see unscrupulous people profit from it by supplying it , I do not want to see mothers trying to self-induce miscarriage and I do not want the practice driven underground where it cannot be seen and where it cannot be regulated.

A miscarriage is a traumatic event for any mother or father and I do not want to see the police, or the government knocking on her door and demanding to check whether the miscarriage was spontaneous or self-induced. That is the road in which I believe Atlasia and the Mideast could go down if this amendment is passed and self-imposed miscarriage is seen as the only option avaliable to women, teenage girls and the victims of rape. If you support or oppose abortion I hope you will oppose this amendment and I myself will do so.

Thank you, good night and God bless.

With an abortion initiative making the MidEast ballot it looks like it is going to be next months big issue. I just hope it will not be the only issue come January.
