https://thehill.com/policy/finance/454932-trump-calls-on-wto-to-reform-developing-country-status-used-by-china

Quote
Trump issued a memo directing U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to use "all available means" to secure changes to WTO policy toward developing countries.

Without progress in the next 90 days, the Trump administration said it will unilaterally ignore a country's "developing status" and reject its membership in the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.

Mr. Trump is correct in one respect. He whines better, or at least a great deal more, than anyone else in his position has ever whined before. (I'm not sure it's 100% American whine, though. There are Russian and other authoritarian notes to it.)

If someone tarrifs and taxes our companies and products, why shouldn’t we do that to theirs.

Your hot take it overly simplistic and lacks context on what the taxes are and why they were implimented. It's understandable though. Many Republicans' gut reactions are to jump to lex talionis before engaging their critical thinking skills.

And on the China WTO issue, Go Trump don’t back down . It’s a disgrace in every way China is considered a developing nation and if that doesn’t Change the US needs to reestablish control of the WTO and force them to make the change .

I hope this news above continues and force The Chinese to give in . They shouldn’t be given one inch , they should be treated as an economic enemy until they give in completely

My (limited) understanding is that if we follow this trajectory, China has already won and America has lost, unless something huge and drastic happens. China will never give in completely.

China’s economic growth has Slown down to their lowest amount since the 1990s and despite that the US economy still has remained strong .

If this trend keeps continuing then it will be clear that China has more to lose than the US which we then can take advantage of

Chinese growth was already slowing before Trump took office. All Herr Trump has accomplished so far with his China trade policies is give the Chinese government an external excuse for the slowing economy so as to avoid being blamed by the Chinese people for the predictable results of having reached an economic inflection point now that Chinese economic growth can no longer be sustained by exports alone.

Trump reportedly doesn't drink.  However, his family owns an American winery (a product of which has been described as "Welch's Grape Jelly with alcohol").

Trump's stupid trade policies are making China look like the good guys in this whole thing. You're losing the PR battle quite badly.

This is why Trump's critics are right when they point out that his expectations of America First in practice under his diplomatic mismanagement in fact just means America alone.

You and Trump both have a lot to learn if you really believe that America can dictate terms to the rest of the world regarding trade or anything else. We couldn't do it in the 1950s, we couldn't do it in the post-cold War 1990s, and we sure as hell can't do it today.

The key to success in today's world is to learn how to work and play well with other nations, not try, and in Trump's case fail spectacularly, at being the schoolyard bully. LOL! It just dawned on me what an apt metaphor that is. If there's anything worse than a bully at somebody who is proving to be an ineffectual bully like our own mango Mussolini.

China literally refuses to do any deal which has strong enforcement provisions in it , so what should we do trust the Chinese will play fair . Well guess what we have tried that for 19 years and that failed and more than failed because China has de facto been waging a trad war against us . Well then it’s time to fight back and make them pay then and if allies are willing to choose China then guess they aren’t allies in the first place .

Jamie Dimon , Mark Cuban have also acknowledged that we have no choice but to fight a trade war against the Chinese and they Aren’t close to being right wing populists or America Firsters either

No it isn’t , what I am talking about is this

- currently the US protects Europe for them  , it should be made clear that the US no longer will provide the support to them if they choose to side with America’s economic enemy

LOL at "when nations act in their own interest, they're anti-American". It's the already dreadfully-wrong "I have a right to make a profit with my business" to the Nth power.

China's endgame is to be the dominant economic power in Eurasia, Oceania, and Africa, while letting us rot alone across the ocean. Trump is helping them reach that goal.

Fine then it’s the US interests to make them pay then . I truly don’t care what nation chooses China over the US they should be punished even if they are there the EU allies , Israel , or even the UK. If they choose China over the US then the US needs make it clear that their will be consequences for them and they won’t like it .

The US is a major reason every one of those nations didn’t get successfully invaded by their enemies . So if they choose to backstab the US , then fine then suffer the consequences for betraying us .

The economy isn't even doing that well.

But Trump inhabits the Oval Office. That automatically equals a successful economy...somehow. Because he's a "successful" businessman maybe? Yeah, let's go with that.

I agree we need to hold China accountable, but why do we have to do it alone the way Trump has done?  We are not the only victims of Chinese mercantilism.  We could have done this multilaterally in concert with other nations.

I agree we need to hold China accountable -but why do we have to do it alone the way Trump has done?  We are not the only victims of Chinese mercantilism.  We could have done this multilaterally in concert with other nations.

I think the US has to lead before other nations will act though , since I don’t think Europe would act as I don’t think they have to the capability to at the moment .

And I think we will see if the WTO means anything or not soon , as if they keep China as a “Developing Nation “ then it will prove that the WTO at this point is a joke and then yes the US should make it clear that they won’t consider China “developing” even if the WTO does .
