Wow, I didn't realize Atlas liberals/leftists were such fans of Richard Shelby, Strom Thurmond, Zell Miller, etc.

Its Conservative Democrats who stayed as Democrats not switched to Republicans

What this thread is asking about is dems like Jim Webb, John Bel Edwards , Sam Nunn

So those 3 were great when they still had the (D) next to their name? lol

They'll throw you under the bus the moment they can increase pork spending. I'm sorry mate Smiley.

Would you prefer a socially conservative Democrat or a socially liberal Republican? I'd take the former anyday

Probably a liberal Republican, but meh.

I'd easily support a socially Liberal fiscally right-wing Republican over a socially conservative fiscally left wing Democrat.

This would really depend on what counts as a "social issue" and how hardline each candidate is, but in general the socially liberal Republican.

It really depends on what issues they are conservative or liberal on.

It'd depend a lot on the specifics (e.g. how conservative/liberal the candidates are, which office they're running for, which issues happen to be most salient at the time); however, all other things being equal, my inclination would be to vote for "Generic Socially Liberal Republican" over "Generic Socially Conservative Democrat".

Depends. In the modern era, I'd take Joe Manchin over Charlie Baker, but historically speaking, I'd take somebody like Nelson Rockefeller over segregationist Democrats.
