How dare Trump commemorate an attempt at peace and dialogue. Roll Eyes

With someone who literally murdered tens of thousands of people and lets his people starve to death.

Bill Clinton met with Arafat on multiple occasions. Dialogue is always preferable to saber-rattling.

You don't see a difference between meeting with someone on a diplomatic level versus hanging their portrait in a place of honor In The West Wing of the White House?!?

Again, if trolling Santander, well played indeed. If not, very sad

Americans don't glorify human rights violators at the White House. It's literally that simple.

For f**k's sake guys, I don't even like Trump's North Korea """strategy""" and I still think you're overreacting. The picture wasn't a portrait; it was a photo of Trump and Kim shaking hands at the DMZ in what was objectively a historically important moment and a major event in Trump's presidency. Trump isn't glorifying Kim, he's engaging in a masturbatory bout of self-congratulation for his non-achievement. Criticize him for that if you want, but you all come across as completely disingenuous for singling him out when so many other presidents have sat down with so many other unpleasant world leaders.

I remember the many Republicans that, when accusing Obama of being un-American/anti-American, cited conspiracy theories that they had pictures of Mao and Stalin (and even Michelle Obama having Maoist Christmas ornaments) but of course, another example of the projection Republicans have been doing for so long.

Diplomacy and dialogue is one thing. This is something else. And I'm saying this as somebody who defends Trump's opening with North Korea.

The picture strikes me as more of commemorating an accomplishment than paying some high amount of respect to Kim Jong Un. Trump is showing off his success at establishing a serious dialogue with North Korea and being the first American President to step foot into the country. While Trump certainly has a predilection for strongmen, this doesn't seem like a good example of that.

I certainly wouldn't consider it anti-American to reach out to North Korea to defuse tensions (regardless of the underlying motivations). Peace is peace; if it means we're further away from a devastating war on the Korean Peninsula today than 2 years ago because of Trump, then I say that's a good thing. If Democrats want to reverse that due to anti-Trump hysteria, then I can't get on board with that.

Okay, but the thing is, there's plenty of ways to "commemorat[e] an accomplishment" without literally hanging up photos of dictators in the White House. This is the equivalent of Nixon hanging up a portrait of Mao, or FDR hanging up a portrait of Stalin. Not to mention:

"If Obama had done this..." (episode 467).

He isn't far from having a 'Hey Arnold'-esque shrine for each of his dictator "friends."

Kim, you make my statesmanhood tremble. My senses all go wacky.
