The PRC is as sh**tty as it's ever been.  And what with the throwing millions into concentration/re-education camps, social credit scores and the ongoing environmental disaster, probably worse.

How can you say such idiotic things with a straight face?

Most people don’t like living in dystopia even if they get shiny towers and fast trains.

I agree with the OP that China isn't exactly paradise, but Mao Zedong might want to have a word with him.

The CPC is obviously doing many bad things, but it is exceptionally ignorant to characterize China as a dystopia. Somalia, Syria, North Korea, and for the time being, possibly Venezuela, are dystopias.

If you think China is a dystopia, you don't understand and you never will.

Yea there is a big difference between totalitarianism versus authoritarianism.

Props to them though, they made killing off entire species more patriotic than fighting Nazi's lol.

Dystopia doesn’t imply a certain form of government, a dystopia could be a libertarian anarchic society. China is dystopian in the sense of being the closest thing to 1984 that a society has ever produced. Also they have some very throwback mao like things there now. Like university faculty being required to write reports about Xi Jinping thought.

Two of my closest friends are from China. One is sadly brainwashed beyond all hope, most likely. The other managed to escape that hellhole with her brain intact, but she emerged with a passionate hatred for socialism/communism. I feel bad for her every time we see student protests on campus with people holding hammers and sickles and such. So ironic that these students are pushing for the same ideology that massacres their peers on the other side of the world. Sometimes I think about driving a tank over these idiots before I remember that I'm a libertarian. But it's infuriating.

No wonder the Chinese students at my school are so apolitical.

Santander is correct, the rhetoric is overwrought. China is not Nazi Germany. It is not gassing people and as Jimmy Carter pointed out, it hasn't been to war since 1979.

You do have a point in terms of their foreign policy.

I wonder if there are any estimates as to how many innocent people Russia and the US killed on foreign soil.

Yeah, but their social credit system may create a 1984-style dystopia sooner than later.

Not even close. The people with the tiki torches probably would like to live under a fascist regime though, much like how the "Trotskyists" at Berkeley pine for the good old days of the Soviet Union. I think these groups are comparable in terms of how fringe they are.
