DUE TO HOW THE AUSTRALIAN SYSTEM WORKS, YOU NEED TO FORMAT YOUR COMMENT SIMILAR TO THIS:

Quote from: Example ballot
House:
1) Labor
2) Greens
3) Reason
4) Centre

Senate:
1) Green
2) Reason
3) Labor
4) Centre
5) Liberals
6) Liberal Democrats

Also, to make things easier, all senate votes are "above the line".

House: 151 members elected in constituencies via instant runoff voting.
Senate: 76 members, 40 of which are elected this year. The elections use optional preferential single transferable vote and a proportional system.

Now, the parties!

Liberal Party: Led by current PM Scott Morrison. They're a center-right liberal conservative party. (For practicality's sake, this includes the LNP of Queensland and the CLP of the Northern Territory) Together with the Nationals they're the Coalition.

National Party: Led by Former MP Larry Anthony, the Nationals are more conservative than the Liberals, and more focused on agrarian, rural issues.

Labor Party: Led by MP and former Minister Bill Shorten, Labor is the main center-left party. Social Democratic in nature.

Greens: Led by Senator Richard Di Natale, the Greens are a more left-wing party, focused on- you guessed it -environmental issues.

Centre Alliance: Currently has no leader. They are a centrist, social liberal and populist party, mostly based in South Australia.

Katter's Australian Party: Led by MP Bob Katter, KAP is protectionist and nationalist, and especially centered on rural issues.

Pauline Hanson's One Nation: Led by Senator Pauline Hanson, One Nation is the main right-wing populist, anti-immigration party.

Fraser Anning's National Conservative Party: Led by Senator Fraser Anning, the National Conservatives are perhaps the most right-wing, near neo-nazistic party listed here. If you aren't familiar with Anning, he said in his maiden speech that Australia needed a "final solution" to the immigration issue, and after the Christchurch shooting blamed muslims for it. Even Hanson said his speeches were like they were "straight from Goebbels' handbook".

Derryn Hinch's Justice Party: Led by Senator Derryn Hinch, the Justice party is hard on law-and-order issues, prioritising jail over rehabilitation. The party also puts an emphasis on anti-paedophilia, mostly due to Hinch's background.

Liberal Democratic Party: Led by Senator Duncan Spender, the Liberal Democrats are a classical liberal and libertarian party.

Conservatives: Led by Senator Cory Bernardi, the Conservatives are very socially conservative in comparison to the Liberals, most notably opposing same-sex marriage.

United Australia Party: Led by Former MP Clive Palmer, it's a right-wing populist party.

Tim Storer Independent SA Party: Led by Senator Tim Storer. Centrist, and argues that the NEG emissions reduction target should be higher. As it seems that their only candidate is him, it's capped at 1 seat.

Parties you guys added in the last poll:

Christians: Led by Ray Moran, the Christians are socially conservative, and represent the Christian Right. In Victoria they merged with the Conservatives, but are around elsewhere.

Reason: Led by MLC Fiona Patten, Reason is a civil libertarian and progressive party. Originally called the Australian Sex Party.

Shooters, Fishers, and Farmers: Led by Former MLC Robert Brown, SFF is a right-wing populist party with a specific focus on gun rights. They also are strong in farmer's issues, especially trying to combat animal rights activists on certain issues.

Labor, with Greens 2nd. The others aren't too great, but One Nation's last.

with comments like this, I'm going to make a ballot based on what you say. If you don't specify which order things are going in, you're going to get a ballot like this:

MB's vote (for now):

house
1) Labor
2) Greens
3) One Nation

Senate
1) Labor
2) Greens
3) One Nation

I'm sorry, but it's the only way I can do STV sorta stuff.

These would be my top preferences:

1. Liberal (Morrison is fine, they'd be a lot lower down on my list had Turnbull stuck around or had Bishop replaced him though)
2. Australian Conservatives (they'd be my top preference if Turnbull were still Liberal leader or if Bishop was the Liberal leader now)
3. Katter's Australian Party
4. One Nation (not a fan, but better than the left)

Why are people preferencing differently in the Senate and in the House?

Why are people preferencing differently in the Senate and in the House?

Not all parties which run in the senate run in individual house races. So in my house seat for example there are only 5 parties running and out of those 5 in my humble opinion the Liberal Party is the best option. In the senate however I can choose from all the parties running in NSW and I like the platforms of the LDP and AusCons over the Liberal Party so I preference them before the Liberal Party. However, in the likely chance neither of those parties qualify for seats, my preference will just go to the Liberal Party.

That makes sense why someone would do that in an election in a specific constituency.

But why are people in this thread who don't even live in Australia putting forward different votes for each?

Roleplaying I guess lol.

4 parties are running candidates in every seat though. Those are the Coalition (Liberals/Nationals), the Labor Party, the Green Party and the United Australia Party (Clive Palmer's party).
