There are 6 aye votes, so this bill is going to be tabled. Fantastic. Finally.

Politics makes for strange bedfellows.
Well to be fair the main reason I oppose this bill is that Wallace won't even bother to make it pass paygo, and has basically said he doesn't care about following paygo. Though I do still oppose this bill on the fundamentals of regional rights and autonomy.

I am shocked at the utter disregard for human life this House has shown. This is not a radical idea; in fact it is completely reasonable and common sense, and yet you still rejected it! Instead of doing what every other sensible country has done to combat gun violence, I guess more useless thoughts and prayers will be on the way the next time there's a mass shooting.

I proposed an amendment that would pass Paygo. And no, it's not an illegal cop-out; look at my wage insurance bill for instance. And yet instead of doing his job and opening a vote on that amendment, the Interim Speaker instead began a motion to table. Unbelievable.

Well firstly if you were at all serious about this you'd actually take the time to make this bill pass paygo, rather than saying you couldn't care less about a legal requirement for all legislation.
But regardless, the federal government should not be lording over the regions. The regions themselves should individually decide whether or not to pursue gun control. The federal government should not horde all debate and power for themselves. Our regions need controversial issues like this to stimulate debate in the regional theatre, so it does not decay into inactivity.

You didn't take the time to do it seriously, and instead had a cop-out saying the money would be decided later.
And you wouldn't happen to be talking about the Wage Insurance Bill that was vetoed by the President, would you?

I'm glad that 6 of the members of the House were sensible enough to vote in favor of tabling this. Banning "assault weapons" at most only puts a band-aid on the real problem behind gun violence, and hurts law abiding gun owners, the vast majority of which never have, and never will harm another human being.

This bill isn't about "saving lives", it's about control.

Im drunk enough to post a thank you to Wallace for introducing a bill, which is more than most Congress people do. Just wish it was to expand freedom rather than obliterate it. Thanks again for being active. All the best.

If the bill was worded properly and we had a more adequate system for the buyback and making sure it passed Paygo, I would have supported this bill, as I believe AW's should not be in the hands of the average Joe. I agreed with the notion of the bill, I just disagreed with it in the current form.

for example: I think Ninja was on the right track with his amendment.

In your amendment in sections 3.3-3.4 it's sort of vague and contradictory:

Quote
3. The possession and use of Assault Weapons within the Republic of Atlasia is hereby a crime, if the weapon is used in illegal or illicit activities.

4. A person may only be punished for possession of an Assault Weapon if said person has committed a crime involving firearms.

It;s either a crime or it's not, that is my main concern, I think you were good and sincere with it, but I think we should re-do the bill and tweak up the actual ban and then focus on paygo.

but in regards to the amendment itself we should have voted on it instead of just tabling it,

As ASV pointed out the bill did not meet paygo and your proposed amendment did not solve that problem and it did not address concerns offered by others.

Funds shall be determined and allocated during the Paygo budgeting process.

This is not a valid way to pass paygo. The paygo budgeting process happens now, in Congress.

With all due respect, you can pretend that anyone who opposes your bill is a psycho who doesn't care about people being killed; or you can understand that everyone wants less gun deaths, but that we don't believe that your bill would do that effectively and fairly.

This bill will not significantly reduce violence because it does nothing to address the root causes. We can regulate weapons until people are fighting with their bare hands, but it won't change the fact that funding for mental health treatment is criminally low or that millions of Atlasians lack opportunities.
