The longtime game show host on Wednesday announced he's been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in a video posted to the show's official YouTube account.

"Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I'm going to fight this. And I'm going to keep working and with the love and support of my family and friends -- and with the help of your prayers also -- I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease," he said.

I'm sorry to hear that, of all the game show hosts out there in the world, he is definitely the best and most iconic (maybe Bob Barker too).

I lost a close personal friend and mentor to pancreatic cancer two years ago. It's a horrible disease, and I actually mean it when I say I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Trebek was always very likable, but my opinion of him trippled after his appearance on Howard Stern. He clearly got the show and proved to be a surprisingly interesting (and candid) guest.

I learned today that Alex's fellow All-Star Matt Jackson is the son of Judge Amy Berman Jackson, who's presiding in the Manafort and Stone cases.
