So this was the compromise to big business that the Administration gave for causing a small upset in labor pools.

Republicans worship greed, power and corruption, and then criticize Democrats for not being religious enough. Better to worship nothing than to worship terrible (false idol) things.

Most of the immigration detention system has been private prisons for decades now

That sounds like a bad thing, much like regular private prisons. Both sides are to blame for this issue.

You forgot about spite and tribalism. The Republicans worship those too.

Maybe after the Trump Org gets shut down for RICO violations, we can house the kids at Trump Tower.

All detention centers should be run by the Federal Government, period.

No more Privatization.

No, merely that this isn't really "news" if you know anything about the system. I don't support private prisons and have even conducted academic research on the topic.

If an organization is well equipped to provide a service needed by the government, including providing for the needs of children and adolescents, the organization being for-profit isn't in itself a reason for the government not to contract with it.  The relevant question is are they doing a good job caring for these children or is there a better feasible alternative.

After watching Cmdr. Jonathan White testifying before Congress about HHS Office of Refugee Resettlement, I believe that on the whole the people there are doing their best in dealing with a bad situation. Most people I think go to work for HHS because they want to help people, even though there is always the usual instances of incompetence and self-defeating regulations that typify bureaucracy.  But here they have to deal with a crisis of unaccompanied minors, exacerbated by White House/DHS policies that have created even more unaccompanied minors by separating parents and children.

OK, fair enough.

And no, I'm not particularly surprised either.

But we vastly expanded the use of it rather than letting people show up to their hearings which had literally over 99% success under the Obama administration. Because immigrants are scary. And Trump will burn in hell for it

My law partner and a close friend of his are right now down in Texas. He took a week away from work to do pro bono work for the migrants. He's been working 12 and a half hour days and I just got a chance to catch up on Facebook on my wife's account since I don't do Facebook. Reading his real world account of what these people, these brave brave brave men women and children, mostly the latter two, put up with, and the xenophobic red tape bureaucracy they put up with in this so-called Land of the Free. I am literally somewhere between tears and wanting to Deck the next son of a b**** I hear who says build the wall.

I I'm absolutely swamped over the next few days oh, and we'll try sometime in the next week or two to share excerpts of his experiences down there and the stories of these migrants seeking a better life for their children. The imminent violence and threats to they and their families well-being that they put up with. And then they get put in kennels. Separated. Because a 99 + percent so-called Catch and Release policy wasn't working enough we had to put in Zero Tolerance in the name of the rule of law when it was nothing more than grotesquely poor discretion in setting Bond.

I'm outraged. I am furious. This should probably explain the tone of my posts all morning. All I can say is after I share this if you don't change your mind inherently about the nature of immigration to this country, forget politics, you are a complete bastard as a person. Not conservative. Not in favor of the rule of law. Not post open borders. A complete xenophobic bigoted bastard.

And for one or two of you in particular, absolutely utterly not a Christian.

I'm pretty pro-loosening immigration laws, amnesty, whatever, but this post makes me want to build a wall a lot more. Pro bono lawyers are almost never been on the right side of any issue. Legal activists are always always outraged that anti-social actions lead to consequences, which is the entire point of civilization. Slobbering over every form of poorly-behaving person, because rich lawyers don't have to live near criminals, homeless, druggies, etc.

I'll tell you right now you meme following Twitter about lawyers. My partner is God damn well on the right side of the Lord and history in this matter. Where do you come up with this?

Literally the most uneducated and downright foolish post put on Atlas in a year's time.

Only a deranged ignoramus could remotely call taking one's family to flee imminent threats of murder from ex-spouses and rampant gang violence with an imminent threat of death against them and their family as " antisocial Behavior" Roll Eyes

Yes, do-gooder lawyers who think of themselves as Jesus 2.0 tend to blunder into various parts of life, especially government, armed with lots of strong opinions, smugness, and an infuriating ability to slow everything down. It's quite aggravating when I don't even believe in Jesus 1.0. Generally speaking, the more lawyers, the worse everything becomes (there is amusingly some academic support for this notion).

Regardless, I hope that legal activists on all sides of the political aisle constantly lose all of their attempts to interfere with actual people in government trying to do their jobs.

Well this explains your complete lack of empathy for other human beings outside you and whatever mommy and daddy gave you. I mean, being atheist in your bag and all, fine. You do you.

But I'll tell you this little boy. You got  balls to assign to a good man you never met about having a supposed Jesus complex. My partner is doing what he is because, unlike you, he has empathy in a conscience. This smugness you talk about is a thousand percent rejection, and it's ugly look on you. Seriously, my partner lost his mother when he was less than 10 years old. He lost his father it was more or less raised by close Neighbors when he was 20. He married his high school sweetheart, join the Army, and use benefits and a crippling amount of student loans to put himself through Law School and start up his own business afterwards. Deanna close Spanish-speaking friend went there not because of any sort of, LOL, smug disbelief in themselves, but because unlike you they have enough ordinary human empathy to be furious at the concept that we locked children up in Kennels because of a grossly unnecessary change in bureaucratic enforcement, not the rule of law. And because unlike you, he actually now fully understands firsthand what a human and humanitarian tragedy this entire border situation really is.

He can be thin skin and annoying, I say that is one of his closest friends. And I'm telling you now that you definitively proven Beyond any shadow of a doubt, it on his worst days in the world he is a 20 times better human being than you ever ever ever hope to be. I pity you, because your life compared to his will be a waste and the number of people remembering you at your funeral would be a laughable pittance to the number of people who will honor his memory when he passes.

You are, sir, quite literally, the worst. That's a trite saying, but please emphasize the term the worst and take it to its worst possible definition. You are the worst, and I'm proud to have my partner as a friend. Now crawl back to Mommy and Daddy for more human being lessons. Apparently they missed a few try to ready you for the world.

It is mildly interesting how much glee you get from typing paragraphs of unhinged, fairly incomprehensible insults at internet strangers, but you do you. I'm not particularly interested in validating the moral superiority masturbation that some people love, so I'll just end off in saying I hope he loses. Which he probably will, since there are various well-thought-out legal doctrines that are actually supposed to stop overactive lawyers (plenary power? Or maybe a standing issue?)

Slobbering over every form of poorly-behaving person, because rich lawyers don't have to live near criminals, homeless, druggies, etc.

Pro bono lawyers have never been on the right side any cause? What the f***?!? Who are you? What are you? Have you struck your head? Stand and Deliver! You poltroon! I am beyond furious at your complete and utter no nothing idiocy!

You are a bad person with a bad post who should feel very very bad. You're bad. Badness oozes out of every pore of your bad self. Bad!

Pointing out your utter lack of empathy for other human beings and utter disregard for the rule of law is in comprehensible only to someone lacking empathy such as yourself. You're an internet stranger, and yes I hope to keep it that way because you are a very disagreeable person.

You are one person who after I share with the Forum his real-life experiences of the very brave, far braver than you incidentally, women and children fleeing actual violence to come here for a better life, probably won't change their mind. And that says very much about you. None of it positive. Quite the opposite actually.

Incidentally, what are you? 12? You know nothing about the law, and yet gleefully rant on about it.

Again, my partner is an infinitely better human being than you will be on the best day of your life.

Jesus F**king Christ, what the hell is wrong with this newb? Did a pro bono lawyer steal his lunch in kindergarten or something?

I was going to post almost the exact same thing, but was afraid that somehow someway the moderators would find it "inappropriate" or some such garbage.

It's as bad as Krazens borderline derangement over teachers unions.
