In 2012 Cruz wasn't that well known, wasn't seen as unlikable/toxic, and was facing a some dude with literally no money or campaign. He was probably seen as just generic R by most people. So it wouldn't really be surprising if there was a decent chunk of people who voted for Cruz in 2012 but won't this time.

Hell, Cruz even won Harris County in 2012, which he has no chance in hell of doing this time.

A center-right voter who has grown to hate Cruz's guts. Basically what IceSpear said.

Most of the support O'Rourke picks up compared to past Texas Dems will be from people who didn't vote in '14.

Even under those circumstances, he couldn't break 60%.

This is somewhat correct. I would for sure be an Abbott voter this year if I lived in Texas, and I most certainly would not vote for Cruz, though I'm not too fond of O'Rourke either and would probably write-in.

A voter who was turned off by how Cruz threw his Father and Wife under the bus for the sake of politics.

Extreme Trump loyalist who has never forgiven him for daring to challenge the Dear Leader in the primary, and is protest voting for O'Rourke out of bitterness.

Ironically, me. (Although I couldn't vote until 2015, so I was just a supporter of them prior to, even supported Cruz over Dewhurst in 2012)
