The Crusader has been commissioned to run a poll regarding the present constitutional situation in the South, and as a result this poll purports to check on the current level of satisfaction with present political structures as well as check on potential ideas for the future.

JBrase - Was this question supposed to be referring to whether or not people like my stance on the issue? Because my "role" was reestablishing a constitutional taskforce to look into the matter, then based on their recommendations, writing a bill which mandated a public vote so that The People could decide.

I look forward to hearing everyone's feedback on whether a constitutional convention is needed since JBrase seems to be the only one interested in reforms.

Not at all, I commissioned this poll because I genuinely wanted to get peoples views on a constitutional convention from all possible angles, and I through in that particular question more or less to gauge how people viewed this current referendum. Though had I put more thought into it I would have also mentioned the constitutional task-force as well in the same question. Perhaps Things could have been worded different, but I promise it was not my intention to take a swipe at your stance.

Honestly I just wanted to ask because the wording seemed confusing to me. I was a bit taken aback as the process I have been following is the one you recommended. Tongue

Hopefully we get a lot of my responses, one of my projects this week was to look through how many amendments I thought were needed and see what would be more practical - a series of amendments or a convention and a big amendment. I would support a constitutional convention if you chaired it as my only concern would be that it went off the rails.

I don't believe a Constitutional Convention is necessary or wanted. I believe that the current referendum has spoken and that the name change that is preferred is Jefferson.

I am happy with the current referendum process, although that is not my preferred method. I believe I already expressed my views on this at the beginning of this process, so I don't see a need to further elaborate here.

I think we should look at a higher threshold for recalling legislators since we elect multiple at-large positions. If we were in a position where, say a party had a 2/3 majority of registered voters, recalls could easily become overused and a way to oust political opponents. The 50% + 1 threshold really should only work for single elected positions like governor or senator.

Funny that you think that now. Wink

I guess someone doesn't like the implications of this.
